ND-Stanford: Numbers & Analysis

Great job by the Irish. Golson looked uncomfortable most of the day and seemed to leave the pocket at times before he needed to do so. Somehow we need to loosen Everett up a little - he needs to smile and show confidence. He still has the deer in headlights look far too often.

Golson drives me nuts.....but i love him.....He learns something each week, and you can see it.
Thank GOD our defence seems to find a way to help him get throuh this learning process.

Good article..You have to take days like that from rookie QB's. Very difficult to play tough defenses your first year. Thank God for Rees' experience and quality character stepping in, not causing trouble tweeting he should start and such.

Golson has to learn to carry the ball properly. Could have foreseen the fumblerama, rain + poor ball carrying = fumbles.

Great comment Lou regarding TJ Jones quietly becoming a clutch receiver. If you look at the catches he's made (Michigan, Miami and yesterday), he's really coming into his own as a receiver.

I was at the game and the stadium was really rocking. A great W!

Brian Kelly has made all the right moves and pressed the right buttons at QB, outside of the three straight pass calls from and inside the Stanford 10 that led to its lone TD. But the situation didn't become a bad one because Rees came through. Given that so many on this board in the summer believed Tommy was even the perpetrator of Original Sin, had he not delivered especially in that Purdue game, both he and Kelly would have been vilified to no end.

That's part of how coaching greatness eventually evolves. Sometimes you have to fly by the seat of your pants and just have faith in the plan and preparation.
