INDIANAPOLIS — Check this page throughout the day for information on Notre Dame prospects from day four of the NFL Scouting Combine. It will be updated frequently with quotes, results and more information on Irish prospects.
Former Irish running back George Atkinson III will run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis on Sunday.
Three former members of the Irish defense (cornerback Bennett Jackson, and defensive linemen Stephon Tuitt and Louis Nix III) will speak with the media today prior to participating in on-field drills the next two days.
No former Notre Dame players ran the 40-yard dash yesterday because of injury concerns. Offensive lineman Zack Martin sat out due to a minor hamstring injury, offensive lineman Chris Watt declined due to a PCL tear from the fall that he is recovering from and tight end Troy Niklas did not run due to a strain in a core muscle. All three are expected to participate in the event at Notre Dame’s Pro Day March 20.
As for today’s on-field activities, former Irish running back George Atkinson III and wide receiver TJ Jones will participate in each of the events, including the 40-yard dash.
Final results: George Atkinson III ran an official 4.48, the sixth-fastest time among running backs. He benched 19 reps of 225 pounds, and had a 38-inch vertical.
• TJ Jones’ official 40 time is 4.48. He did not participate in the bench press session because he is still regaining strength in his shoulder. He posted a 33-inch vertical, 6.82 cone drill and a 119-inch broad jump.
• Stephon Tuitt benched 31 reps of 225 pounds, which ranks the sixth among defensive linemen.
• Prince Shembo benched 26 reps, which ranks sixth among linebackers.

1:57 p.m. — I talked with Stephon Tuitt this past hour as well. His comment on turning pro early: “It wasn’t really difficult. [The NFL] was just something I had to see if I was ready for.” There will be a video and article from the interview posted later today.
1:51 p.m. — Caught up with Louis Nix III a few minutes ago. The video of his interview can be seen here.
1:07 p.m. — I just caught up with former Irish cornerback Bennett Jackson, who measured in at 5-11 7/8, 195 pounds. He hopes to run in the 4.3 range on Tuesday.

10:05 a.m. — The first group of wide receivers have completed the 40-yard dash. The second group, which includes TJ Jones, will participate shortly.
