Mark Harrell has gradually seen his offer list grow and is getting more of an idea of what he's looking for in a college program.
Offensive lineman Mark Harrell continues to land offers, and he'll remain in contact with Notre Dame to see if they'll potentially extend one as well.
Many of the things he's looking for he found during his Junior Day visit to Notre Dame this weekend.
"I really enjoyed the visit," the 6-5, 260-pound Charlotte Catholic High player told BlueandGold.com after arriving home on Sunday. "I liked the campus a lot. I'm from a Catholic school, so it's a plus. I really liked the coaches and the facilities are nice. They have everything you're looking for."
The programs that have extended an offer to Harrell include Duke, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina State, Virginia, Wake Forest and West Virginia. He's expecting an offer from Clemson soon.
As far as where he stands with an offer from Notre Dame, however, he'll have to reach out to the coaching staff to find out.
"I'll have to look into it more when we talk again to get more of an idea," he said of his recruitment status following the trip. "They have some offers out on the offensive line, so we'll go from there."
The person he'll be catching up with - his recruiter, Mike Elston.
"He recruits my area so we sat together during the (Notre Dame versus Seton Hall) basketball game," Harrell said of the Irish defensive line coach. "He seems like a nice guy. I talked to him once before to RSVP for the trip, but I got to know him a lot better now because I didn't have much contact with Notre Dame before."
In addition to getting some personal time with Elston during the game, there were other parts of Harrell's visit to Notre Dame that stand out to him.
"I like the academic aspects of the school" he said. "I got to meet some of the student body there, the coaching staff, see the facilities, learn about the tradition ... there were a lot of great things about the visit."
Harrell, whose team went 14-1 after losing to Crest High in the regional finals, 31-10, has also wrapped up his basketball season (played forward) and will throw shot put in track.
He has also visited Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. His upcoming visits are scheduled for Clemson (March 5 - where he may land the Tiger offer), North Carolina (March 19), Auburn (March 26) and Virginia (April 2). He plans on scheduling a visit to Michigan soon.
While taking the visits, he looks for certain aspects to help him make his college decision.
"I want to go to a school that I feel I belong in the environment," Harrell said. "I have to feel a bond with the coaching staff and it has to be a good academic fit for me."
With other visits scheduled and hopes of landing more offers, he hasn't cut down his list of school at this point.
"No offers stand out more than the others at the moment," he said. "I'll hopefully have a top five in the summer and maybe I'll decide before my season."
