Fifth-year senior center Braxston Cave is back to bashing bodies after eight-month absence.

    • Thanks Wes,

It seems Brax is almost 100%... I really like the way he plays the game and i completely expect so see him leading a o-line on sundays in the near future....

    • Quick conversation I had yesterday about Cave -- while helping coach my kid's first Mishawaka Catholic football practice last night ... the kid I was paired up with for stations played football and graduated from Marian High in 2009. There was some crossover there from when Cave was in high school, and he said Braxston was definitely the talk around the surrounding schools as the kid that no one wanted to line up across.

"He was an absolute beast. And everybody knew it."

I found it interesting because while most kids playing in high schools that compete against one of the "studs" in the area, you normally hear negative things, but it seems like Cave was the type of kid that had the respect of his peers then.

As WE ARE ND76 posted, definitely some hardware potential in Cave and it will come down to how well he overcomes the injury he suffered. We haven't seen much yet, but it looks like he's able to drive off of it just fine and we'll be paying close attention when we get to watch them for a full practice.

    • Losing him and Jonas late killed the running game to end the season.

    • Cave on playing in Dublin:

"It’s definitely exciting — a different atmosphere. But at the end of the day, it’s a business trip. We have one thing ahead of us and that’s winning that game. Whether it was played in Ireland or out in the parking lot, it doesn’t matter, we have a job to do."

    • Cave on possibly being named a captain:

"It would mean a lot. It has always been a goal of mine. Since my freshman year, Eric Olsen was one of the captains, and he was a guy that really mentored me early on. We’ve been compared as similar players. That would be great. It’s not my main focus. I’ve put in five years of work and that’s going to play out however it does. But I think it would be a great thing for me, my family and just to leave a legacy behind."

    • Cave on different styles of the quarterbacks competing for a starting job:

"That’s what this offense is set up for. Whether it’s throwing the ball or running the ball every play, if that’s what we have to do, we’re going to put points up. We’ll find a way to make whatever we need happen."

    • Cave on Golson:

"I don’t know if you ever get a handle on [predicting what a mobile quarterback will do], to be honest. That’s the kind of guy he is; he’s a playmaker. If he’s going to make plays, we’ve just got to adjust to that."

      Wes Morgan

    • Cave on Hendrix:

"I think all the younger guys have [developed their voices]. I think that’s one thing Coach Martin and Coach Kelly told them. If you’re going to be the quarterback, you’ve got to be the leader of the offense and you’ve got to be able to talk. I think they put some emphasis on that in the offseason and it’s showing."

I think it is that potential that has so many fans excited to see what Golson can do.

Great to have Braxston back up front. Golic could not take his place last year when he was injured, but I am not sure anyone could. So, not so much a hit on Golic as a compliment to Cave's abilities.

    • He's was brought up in the Kingsmen tradition. It's deep, and it's strong. And this is coming from a "Pride of the Southside Wildcat". What was instilled in him at (The University of) Penn H.S., has been fortified at ND. So I know he's going to have an outstanding season this year.
