A look at Notre Dame’s top players in myriad categories during its 6-0 start that lifted it to No. 5 in the BCS rankings
I think the pick 6 does show up in the scoring offense total, doesn't it?
A great list, well picked, Lou. It is great that there are so many choices to pick from. No mention of O line, which also has been major- low sack count, run when we need it, etc.
Interesting no O/L player???
Quite a few players and I agree on all...Wood deserves a mention
Great write up Lou, you nailed it on the awards.
It really seems to me that Coach Diaco, and all, deserve a huge tip of the hat for getting these players in the right position to succeed. Yes, they all have a lot of talent, but moving guys from position to position has been a thing of beauty this season... especially on defense.
At the midway point, I think Diaco would be the hands down winner for the Frank Broyles Assistant Coach of the Year Award.
The offensive line is always a tough assessment individually because it has to be so much about playing as one. Zack Martin would still be the standout of the unit but it would be hard to put him in any of the categories we mentioned.
manti is the player who brought this program back.long after he graduates his presence will be felt.he has set the bar which meny will try to match.
We need to enjoy Coach Diaco, and hope he is grooming someone to take his place next year. There are a lot of Big Time programs who will be rolling out the red carpet this winter to try to acquire his services as a head coach. I hope he sticks around for a while, but the $$$$ will be thrown at him.
I didn't think it was possible but anytime I read your articles my confidence in this team increases and my fandom goes up. Everything you've said about these guys is exactly how I feel and makes me realize there is something special about this team.
You forgot to mention the MOST important person in the 6-0 record------Brian Kelly !
It's a players feature, sort of like the year-end awards at the Football Show. Coaches give out the awards, not receive them.
With that said, it looks pretty certain that Brian Kelly will be a finalist for every Coach of the Year Award this season.
The rule for that is at Notre Dame, you can be "Coach of the Year" only once. That's because you're only allowed to surprise only once. Thereafter, your team is always expected to be in contention, which can make it a thankless job.
Welcome aboard, RJSHAN!
There seem to be so many similarities to the 1988 team--from eye-poppingly successful position switches to the surprising elevation of play at every level to freshmen and sophs playing such key roles to the third year Head Coaching success that has been mentioned so often.
I really hope that Jaylon Smith and Alex Anzalone benefit from at least one season under Diaco. Perhaps a promotion to 'Associate Head Coach' from his current 'Assistant Head Coach' title and a wad full of money might keep him here one more year. It's insightful hearing the glowing compliments that Manti pays him in press conferences. But watching Diaco handling the press convinces you that this guy has 'Head Coach' written all over him...so articulate, so poised, so in command of the room.
