Notre Dame’s 66-40 victory over St. John’s Tuesday on Senior Night capped a 17-2 record at home this season. It is the eighth consecutive time the Fighting Irish have won their final regular-season contest at home.
It was the third time in the last four games Notre Dame (23-7, 11-6 Big East) has held its opponent to 42 points or fewer, and St. John’s 40 points was the lowest total every by an Irish foe in Big East play (regular season or tournament). The previous low was 41 by Cincinnati on Feb. 24. The Irish limited Pittsburgh to 42 points on Feb. 18.
St. John's shot 30.4 percent (17-56) from the field, which is the lowest shooting percentage for any Irish opponent this season.
No. 24 Notre Dame finishes the regular season Saturday at Louisville before heading to the Big East Championship at Madison Square Garden in New York City Sunday.
