It's worth noting that Everett's status was the first thing I was looking for. Nice one, J.

And I don't think it can be overstated just how important it has been for the Irish to make it through three Big 10 opponents, a (possibly overrated) Miami offense and a soggly slog through some Kentucky Bluegrass against a perennial foe and emerge virtually injury-free.

An unheralded hero on the coaching staff must certainly be Paul Longo. Weis' teams could barely stand up on their own two feet by the fourth quarter. Coach Kelly's team? Yeah, they're just stuffing Stanford four straight times from inside the Irish five yard line.

This is different ... truly different. And it feels so good.

I sure hope somebody makes sure Golic knows the snap count.

3 false starts by a 5th yr senior is inexcusable, period!

Agreed... and the coaches need to introduce fundamental blocking techniques to Troy Nicklas.

      Frawls42

    • Why he continues to have Riddick as the starter baffles me.

      vin4irish

    • In response to some of the above comments: Paul Longo has done an excellent job of not only conditioning, but keeping the athletes healthy and on the quick mend when they do hurt but let's not forget the recent introduction of the training table and the dieticians who have insured healthy and nutritional meals. Perhaps the above combination is why we don't have gased, underweight players in the fourth quarter any more. Questioning Riddick, who has helped close out several wins with his fourth quarter running, pass catching, pass BLOCKING, and the coaching staff for being "first in" sounds a bit foolish to me. He has the best combination of skills among the backs and he didn't break any team rules. CW is without a doubt an exceptional athlete but he's paying a price for his preseason actions. Troy is still only a soph and playing the position for the first time. He'll get better. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the next great TE at ND

    • Riddick is the best overall back. He can catch and block as well as run. Cierre is the better runner and george has the most speed but bk knows what he's doing. He wants someone in there that can do all 3 to help keep the defenses on their toes.

      DomerPile

    • Riddick.does everything well, he is noticeably the best.pass catcher of.the rbs and he picks up blocks and runs very hard. I believe Riddick is "comfort food" for Kelly and golson

      ndfaninmd

    • I agree that he is a great pass blocker and catcher, which are the traits if a 3rd down back. Wood is a much better runner than riddick, and that gap is bigger than riddick a pass catching ability over wood. And I like riddick, I'm not bashing him. But he should not be getter equal/more carries than wood.

      vin4irish

    • Wood is miles better than Riddick. Riddick made two unbelievable catches on Saturday and was instrumental in the victory but he has also has dropped numerous balls these past two years on swing passes and the like.

    • The past 2 years are mute, otherwise motta wouldnt be on the field and Rees wouldnt have 3 saves. I agree wood is a terrific runner and ga could be amazing but in this offense pass catching has proven to be nearly as important as pure running ability

      ndfaninmd

    • Furthermore wood looked like he gassed around week 5 or 6 last year, that won't happen this year

    • Maybe it was just me, but Riddick looked like he had more fire Saturday than Wood. I said at the first of the season Wood was the best running back, but Riddick was there and done very well when needed. Riddick seemed more like a team leader Saturday also . I think the two backs feed of each other and it makes both better. This is just probably the best backfield in college football, with all three contributing. AND I FOR ONE AM LOVING IT. GREAT GAME , GO IRISH
And by the way Niklas is a stud, had a hard time Saturday against a great linebacker, but is only going to get a lot better as he goes forward. He is doing very well, having only played 6 games at end, I look forward to his future.

Riddick is leading the team in rushing and catches and we are 6-0. I will agree that Wood may be a better pure runner, but this O is not purely about running the football. The RB position has to be able to play multiple roles and Riddick fits that role perfectly. So for you to say that Wood is miles better is unwarranted just to be honest. I think BK has the right balance that he wants with the RB and they all seem to have fresh legs for the second half of the season.

I watch both of them with my eyes and see that Wood is the better of the two. My opinion but you're entitled to yours. I'm not the coach, 6-0 is 6-0 and agreed, splitting carries means fresh legs. Go Irish!

    • This is a tough crowd..this is a great problem to have..RB's are the most vulnerable position...Riddick is a Sr...Wood will be back..GA will be star..Niklas will end up an AA...and play on Sunday for years..He won't try to block a better LB the rest of the year...that kid's a stud...

I'll say it too. Wood is so significantly better than Riddick and it isn't funny.

Cierre Wood per carry avg. 5.9 yards
Riddick - 3.9 yards per carry

Theo Riddick has carried the ball 80 times, Cierre Wood 47 (33 fewer) yet Riddick only has only 29 more total rushing yards with 60% more carries.

The only reason Riddick is the leading rusher, is because Wood missed 2 games due to suspension, and was yanked early in a 3rd for some spat w/ Alford on the sideline. So yes, you are right Riddick is the leading rusher, but at least qualify that statement with supporting facts.
The reality is Riddick has better hands, but Wood can catch a lot of footballs (had 27 receptions last year). Riddick also lines up in the slot which naturally will give him more receptions.

Our offense needs help. And I agree 6-0 is 6-0 however it has little to do with our offensive production. I for one would love to see Wood, get as many touches as possible when running the ball. That is just my opinion based on the facts.
