Notre Dame assistant coach Scott Booker had a lot of positive things to say about TE signee Durham Smythe at UND.com this morning.
"He has a great skill set as far as his hands … a big target at 6-6 and really has a passion for the game. We actually knew about Durham for a while in the spring. We had a list of about our top-five tight ends we were going to go after and Durham was on that list. It just so happened during the recruiting process, you know how things go, it’s an ever-changing type of thing. We came back full-circle with him. He was a little bit more on the quiet side, but as far as when you see him out there playing football, you know he has a love for the game and has a passion about playing. He enjoys being around his teammates, and I think he’s going to be a great fit in our room with the tight ends.
"He catches the ball great with his hands. He has big hands, and he really snatches the ball out of the air. He can run after the catch. On a lot of plays tight ends catch the ball and fall down. He’s able to do things after the ball in his hands. He’s also a proficient blocker, especially in his senior year. They put him more attached and he was able to block defensive ends, defensive tackles and did a really good job with that."
