Stanley Williams admits to lying about Notre Dame visit.
All was thought to be running smoothly between Notre Dame and Monroe (Ga.) George Walton Academy junior running back Stanley Williams. On Sunday afternoon, the 5-8, 189-pound four-star recruit told BlueandGold.com that he had visited Notre Dame that Saturday and was even expecting an offer from the Irish soon.
The only problem is that visit never happened.
When BlueandGold.com learned that the story was fabricated and contacted the Peach State ball-carrier, he apologized for his deceit and explained that he lied because he was feeling a lot of pressure to take the visit, although he did not identify the source.
“I felt a lot of pressure to say I had went on the visit,” Williams said. “At the time I was supposed to go, but couldn’t go because of some things that I had going on.
“It was planned to happen but prior to some other engagements. I wasn’t able to make it.”
Williams says he has not heard from any of the programs recruiting him since providing the false quotes, and he declined to answer when asked if he was expecting any consequences from the incident.
He is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 4 all-purpose back in the country, the No. 21 player in Georgia and the nation’s No. 202 overall player in the class of 2014.
