Updated: 4:33 p.m. -- Reading (Pa.) Wyomissing inside linebacker Alex Anzalone had a change of heart. Again.
LB Alex Anzalone attended Florida's Friday Night Lights as an Irish commit over the summer.
After originally committing to Ohio State following its spring game and opting to change his pledge to the Irish, his flirtation with the Gators through the process that required him to reaffirm his commitment to being in South Bend has risen again - but this time it's for good.
BlueandGold.com initially learned through multiple sources that the Top50 player has notified Notre Dame of his intentions of enrolling at Florida this weekend instead of moving into his dorm room on Sunday, set to be roommates with tight end commit and friend Mike Heuerman, and the touted linebacker later confirmed.
"I'm not going to Notre Dame," he said, confirming the report directly. "I'm enrolling at Florida tomorrow."
When we spoke with Anzalone following the BCS Championship loss for the Irish to Alabama, he indicated it would have no impact on which direction he'd be driving this weekend.
"It was tough to watch," the 6-3, 232-pound player said on Tuesday. "I don't think it will have any impact on recruiting. ... I texted all the commits last night saying that this isn't going to happen to us again because we're going to be on a mission from day one."
The GPS will be set for Gainesville, however, as Wednesday's news on Brian Kelly interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles was apparently enough to break the thin glass that the Pennsylvania native always appeared to be standing on.
Anzalone is the third decommitent in Notre Dame's 2013 class, but the others, running back Jamel James and outside linebacker Danny Mattingly were more so mutual decisions, and now have 22 verbal commits total.
The Florida early enrollee said he has been advised to not provide any further comments on the subject.
