Updated at 7:50 p.m. - Indianapolis Speedway Senior wide receiver Justin Brent received his first scholarship offer from Notre Dame this past weekend and it didn't take long for the 2014 target to respond as he made his choice known on Monday.
"Excited to announce I've committed and will be playing college football for the University of Notre Dame," he said via Twitter. "Blessed to officially be on board!!"
The 6-3, 190-pound recruit camped at Notre Dame on June 22 and the rest of the chips fell into place.
"They're close to home," Brent told 247Sports national writer Steve Wiltfong after landing the offer, noting the Irish were the team to beat. "It's a place my mom would be able to come see me if she needed me. It felt comfortable. They were the first school to visit me at school, first school I went to see a game at, first place I signed an autograph, and they were the first to offer.
"They were the first for a lot."
He didn't want to make a reactionary decision upon receiving the offer, but he's not in a place where he was ready to make the early pledge.
Brent, who had 40 receptions for 419 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore, was also receiving interest from Cincinnati, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.
