Robinson Not Michigan's Only Threat

Denard Robinson

Michigan senior QB Denard Robinson has thrown and rushed for nearly 1,000 combined yards against ND the last two seasons

Michigan is working to develop other game-changing players besides QB Denard Robinson.

    • Our running game should be able to tear Hoke a new one. Cierre, Theo, and George--talk about fresh legs.

      ATX ND

    • If Denard wasn't on this team I would say ND wins by 21.

      GIGA

    • ND must try to duplicate the ALABAMA game Plan. it can be done. SLADE.

    • He still scares me a bit, but this years Irish squad just looks much faster than last years. Hit him hard and hit him often!

    • I don't think Michigan's freshman linebackers or veteran linebackers will control the tempo of ND's offense this year and there is no mention of the veteran defensive lineman making a push against ND's O-Line so I see a huge mismatch here! If ND can contain Robinson this year and get some pressure on the perimeter so that Manti & our linebacker crew can tear him up on the inside, its going to be a long night for the Wolverines! Go Irish!

    • Brindza will have to replicate his kickoffs on Saturday. When I watched the Alabama game, #26 immediately stood out for me. Im guessing that is this Norfleet kid. He is alarmingly dangerous. I dont even want to see him bring the ball out 4 yards deep in the EZone.

Gardner, A RRod recruit, was an intriguing move to WR upon tuning in to Bama game. I was curious as to what they were going to do with him, a good QB prospect, as he is bookended b/w Denard and next year's 99% certain to start Shane Morris as Hoke will start the full on transformation back to Michigan football. A FB, a pro style passer, etc.. and Gardner will be at WR, probably along with Treadwell.

This game is so so big for us.

    • According to the Sagarin ratings, UMass is #193 in the country (ND is at #5), with almost 70 FCS schools ahead of them. And when looking back at the statistics from last week's game against Michigan (#34), one thing really stands out to me:

Michigan could only muster one sack on UMass' QB.

Their defense didn't force any fumbles (though they did recover one that wasn't forced) and didn't intercept the UMass QB. And they let the #193 team rack up more than 100 yards rushing.

On the other side, UMass recorded a sack and had a pick-6 against Denard Robinson. If UMass' defense can do that, imagine what Tuitt, KLM, Nix3, Shembo, Schwenke, Day (if he goes), Springmann and Manti's LB Corps can do against Michigan's O-Line. It stands to reason that ND will be all over the Michigan offensive backfield. That leaves it to 'ol #5 to keep Robinson in check. If he can do this week what he did last week against Bell, then this game could be a runaway. And the Irish need to look good in front of the three dozen commits and recruits who will be in attendance.

If Michigan's defense can only manage to register one measly sack as their marquis stat against a lowly UMass squad, then there's a real possibility that, yet again this week, Everett Golson won't be touched; leaving him a lot of time to make very, very good decisions. I humbly predict a big game, offensively. Michigan's defense is nowhere near as good as Michigan State's. And finally, I anticipate the return of one Tyler Eifert to the game-winning statistics on Saturday night. Three RB's in rotation, a blooming young QB, a group of WR's that is proving to be nearly indefensible and a mammoth wall of veteran lineman up front? What did Kirk Herbstreit say last weekend? Oh, yeah. "Notre Dame's offense could be dangerous." Amen to that.

I'm really starting to believe. Anyone else?

This game is very seldom a blow out either way (with a few exceptions). I like ND's chances but am still wary. The UMASS game means nothing. Michigan, as we have done before, played down to its competitition. They will be up. We will be up. THey have weapons. We have weapons. History says a game down to the wire.

    • ND is looking very confident - this is a much faster and quicker team than what MU has seen from ND. Hold Denard in check and this has the makings of a huge ND win! ND's D will be up - no repeat of last years 4th quarter meltdown. EG when added to our backfield of Woods/Theo will stretch MU's D making this a nightmare for MU's dbs - really like this matchup - Eifert, TJ & Goodman should have a productive day. I don't believe that motivation will be lacking for the IRISH - losing 3 games to this MU squad should provide enough adrenaline to be skyhigh! If ND controls the game tempo ND will be 4-0 going into a bye week. GO IRISH!!

    • Fans can talk: let's you and him fight.

Coaches and players must prepare to fight Michigan, prepare to be focused, attend to details, and be ferocious.

    • Does anyone know if Day is playing or not?
What do you think about containment vs. attacking dr?
Containment to the pocket will force dr to attempt passing....should be good for the Irish?
Attacking will force him out and move dr to his strenght...running....not so good for the Irish?
      What do you think???

      GO IRISH!!!

    • When Denard runs, contain him, and after he gets to the line of scrimmage hit him hard with with gang tackles. He's been beat up pretty good already this year and we need to continue the carnage.

Force him to throw his 'dying duck' passes, because this year we will intercept.

    • Notre Dame is clearly the better team.If they take care of the ball and continue to eliminate turnovers the Irish should win.I want to tear these guys a new a-- hole. Go Irish.

    • A Michigan beat writer said something interesting to me the other day when he mentioned that this is the latest in the season Notre Dame has had to go up against Robinson. That's not an earth-shattering observation, but it's something to think about. Robinson has played ND in Week Two the past two seasons. He's taken more hits going into Week Four this year.

He has been banged up a little bit this year already, and we saw him miss time last season a couple times with injuries. Not that you hope he gets hurt, but it's something to think about. I think you want him to pass as much as possible, even with some question marks in the Irish secondary. But getting some bodies piled up on him early in the game might keep him from running wild. It's going to require a mix of defensive looks.
