A frustrating moment when they came out of the tunnel because I had a black-and-white TV. I tried to sneak into the game but when there were about 10 minutes left before kickoff I jogged home. The performance en route to the national title compensated plenty for the initial letdown.

Didn't see the actual green color until Sports Illustrated arrived in the mail six days later.

The team was supposed to "retire" the jerseys as a one-time deal, but the 49-19 victory over No. 5 USC made them want to keep it for good luck. Some players had given their jerseys to parents as souvenirs, but they had to bring them back for the next week.
