Thanks for sharing - great posts! Coach Duffy and Coach McKay were great MEN as well as coaches. Note the respect they had for Ara and ND - don't think Miles gets the message. GO IRISH!!

Seem to remember hearing that story once before. First ND game ever watched was 1966 against Purdue.Always a big fan of Mr Fling, Mr Cling and Nick Eddy. As a 9 yr old they were my idols. I think in those days, the coaches and players had a lot more respect for each other. Good luck to your son. Thanks for lighting up a kids world 46 yrs ago.
When you read Terry's post, there is no need for further argument to persuade anyone that Notre Dame is a special place. To think it was 46 years ago I sat in front of that old RCA console and listened to "Hanratty to Seymour". My God, how fresh those memories remain.
Thank you very much for the story! +1!

I had the pleasure of meeting Bubba Smith at a sports banquet when I was a high school coach, and besides being a very affable gentleman, he wound up poking fun at me in his talk because I had proudly admitted to him where I had attended college. Like others here, I had the privilege of meeting quite a few really good guys from that ND era as well, though unfortunately, not the OP, here, who was a true hero to many of us who came to ND after him. Thanks for sharing, T-QB. It's a real treat having your perspective added to the board, both as a former player and a proud father of a current one.
