  • I read somewhere that JC Shurburtt thinks that ND leads with him. Does he have an upcoming visit planned? Any insight into what the positive vibes are that he is hearing?

I also saw that Dorian Johnson is a five star OT prospect. Was he the lineman that we had to turn away as a result of us filling up our spots.

    Thanks for the info.

  • Not surprised, if true. Diaco wouldn't let a 4-star DE from New Jersey slip away.

  • Add him to the list

  • WE won't know much about Muhammad until late November/early December. He's a Don Bosco kid and they typically restrict their players from recruiting activities until after the season.

JC tweeted that last week, I believe.. Didn't come out and say it like that. Said something along the lines watch out for ND here. Bosco's coach loves ND and that's pretty well known. Heard the reason his son choose BC over ND was to upset his pops. Don't know if that's true or not. We didn't turn Johnson away..

  • Good friends with Shumate, so that can't hurt.

  • Love the connection to Don Bosco.. Really wish Yuri Wright wouldn't dropped the ball though; it would've made this year's secondary picture a lot clearer.. I fully expect us to make Muhammad a priority and for him to end up Irish.

As far as Dorian Johnson, we were recruiting him and he shot up the rankings. I think some of us, myself included, expected him to be Irish because of his connection to Scott Booker, but we by no means turned him away because we were full. If that happened to anyone, I would say it was Aaron Cochran considering he was visiting those last few weeks before we filled up and he didn't pull the trigger.

  • NDguy, That makes sense with Johnson. I couldnt see us turning away a talented kid like him. Thanks for the replies everyone.

  • Muhammed would be a nice compliment with rochell and matsuka. I think he is more of a natural pass rusher. Getting him and another highly rated end I think would give us a top 3 dline recruiting class.

  • We had some notes on him a couple Tunnel Visions back:

  • Add Muhammad and Ogundeko (I like his projection at DE better than OLB).. Ogundeko or Sherit.

I am not trying to be rude but that information is incorrect. Toal does not particularly like ND. He doesn't hate ND either like some believe, but he is kind of luke warm on them.

As far as Brian goes, he just didn't like Notre Dame. His dad had little to do with that recruitment. In addition Greg Toal, Brian's older brother who played with Chris Simms at Ramapo played for BC so they had that angle working for them. The eldest Toal played for W&M. You may be confusing Toal with Olsen. Olsen's father is also a long time coach in Northern NJ and he has/had an affinity towards Notre Dame. I am not sure if that changed after Chris and Greg transferred as the youngest Olsen is committed to Miami. I grew up playing sports against/with both Olsen's so I know that to be true.

Now on Muhammad I believe he is a tad overrated as a player, just my opinion. He will be a solid college player but I think 40 is way too high. I think he is a top 250 player, maybe in the 150-200 range. Once again that's just my take. If he wasn't playing at Don Bosco I think that's where he would rated right now.

Last note on Bosco. They have been "housing" their top players for about the last 5-7 years now. It's a private school so I do not know the rules if that is allowed. But there are rumors around Ramsey that Bosco has come under some scrutiny for doing this. Yuri Wright is an example, so is Caroo who lived with my neighbor who was the Bosco QB a couple years back. But one particular thing I've heard with regards to their most talented player, Peppers. Peppers starred in the state final as a freshman and has been their most athletic player. However, he transferred this off-season after his sophomore year. I've heard from multiple people that he was living by himself in Allendale which is the town next to Ramsey and not exactly an inexpensive place to live. He is originally from Jersey City, which is where St Peter's Prep is another NJ powerhouse. So I think there are some questions being asked now as to why he left, and Yuri Wright was in a similar situation. I've even heard that Toal could move on to a college position in the next year or so.

I concede I have no hard evidence but that's seems to be the "inside" word around Bosco. Interesting to see what happens there over the next couple of years.

  • Muhammad is a freak athlete who can rush the passer very well and he has a motor that doesn't stop. ND must get him. Imagine rochell, Ogundeko, and Muhammad with Smith and possibly anzalone, cox, randolph, and hutchings as our LBs. I know that it alot of dreaming but i think the rochell ogundeko, muhammad part is very realistic as well as the smith and anzalone/cox part. Our defense could be very good. All the guys I listed above have either already committed or have ND as leaders and have visited or will visit. This is very realistic and the defense could be legendary.

Muhammad and Ogundeko at DE, Rochell bulking up to play NT, Smith, Cox, Anzalone, and Randolph at LB, and then Kinlaw and VH3 at CB with Priest Willis at CB/S and Butler playing in the nickel. Sounds absolutely ridiculous and far-fetched, but in reality it's not that far from being real.. If Smith can work VH3, I think we would then focus on Willis because I believe Ogundeko, Muhammad, Cox, Anzalone, and Willis will all commit to ND with the amount of recruiting they're getting now. We just need that little extra with the DB's.

  • I agree with you 100%. We are dreaming right now but the dream very easily could become reality. I think Luke, Anzalone, Ogundeko, Muhammad, and Cox are all going to end up at ND and with some work on Willis, VH3, and Randolph they could also be NDs. I also think this defense will just get better and with Muhammad waiting until after his season is over, all the talent that has already committed will be hard for him to say know to and same with Willis, neither will be able to say no to such a loaded defense.

I wish I had your optimism. If we get either VHIII or Priest, I'd be happy.

  • I think we end up with Luke and either VH3 or Willis, I don't see us landing two 5 star corners. But the LB and DE part is very realistic.

    Ndirish2

  • But yes I also would be very happy if we just got one of them. Both will be hard pulls but I think with some work, it s possible especially for willis.

    Ndirish2

  • With Luke getting an offer from USC, if he'd commit there I'd very exponentially better about Willis. Then we can have Smith keep working on VH3. With that, you could argue our DB haul (VH3, Willis, Kinlaw, and Butler) is even better than our OL haul (Elmer, Montelus, Bivin, McGovern, and McGlinchey.)

  • This recruiting class is the reason we can't even consider replacing BK. Even if we have a 6-6 season, he is setting us up for future success by restocking and building incredible depth. With that, mediocrity is only going to be temporary. If we can hold onto our commits through NSD, we are looking at an Alabama/LSU-type of stout defense in South Bend for the future. It's exciting business.

  • I agree with. BK is doing an excellent job, now we can't loose any recruits. They all must sign.

    Ndirish2

  • Agreed. Seems like a class where guys aren't just committing to the staff, but to each other and the school. With that strong of a commitment, I expect minimal defections. I really haven't seen any Ronald Darby-type of players in this class who, IMO, are isolated and don't see the big picture.

  • I would agree, i think the only one i have the slightest worry about is rashad Kinlaw because he just didn't seem to be talking or anything but now he is visiting ND this week, so I think he is fine.
