Armstead Brothers Closing In on ND Commitments?

  • This is PURELY my opinion and is by no means supported by any type of source or B&G staff, but I feel commitments from them are coming soon. I say this because I firmly believe that they are a package deal.

With them being a package deal, Armond has a final three of ND, Arkansas, and Auburn from what I've read. Two of those match up with two of Arik's finalists (Notre Dame and Auburn.) Given how Arik has made it known that he wants to play in the NFL and the NBA, I would think that Notre Dame would be the run-away choice over Auburn when it comes to choosing a school that will give him the opportunity to play football and basketball at a high enough level to make his dual-sport professional dream a reality while still playing side-by-side with his brother.

Again, it's just my opinion, but I feel it's not far off from what will really happen.

Arik is deciding within a week per his twitter and most likely will not be visiting Auburn.

He's pretty much down to cal, Oregon and ND.
If the brothers are a package deal, well, the only realistic option would be ND.

  • They are not a package deal. Arik has said a few times that where his brother ends up will not make a great impact on his decision. Now, what he says and what is actually true are two different things as he could just be saying that, but for now I think we need to just take him at his word.

    Payday

  • If he's a lock for Cal, why wouldn't he commit the same day as Thompson, Payton, and McCarthy? Would make sense to just keep the ball rolling with that recruiting class if its a "lock". I think its down to ND and Cal and they're neck and neck.

  • His brother would be with him for a year, but not for his whole time at the school of his choosing. So I would have to think that it plays maybe 50% of his decision. I too have to think that Cal is his choice. But wish it ends up ND.

  • I would not be surprised o see Yuri and Arik go to Cal I hope they both come to ND though

    BostonIrish8

  • I think it's been said before, but I think the way it plays out is this. Arik has Cal 1 and ND 2. However, I think Arik originally committed to USC because they have a close family, and would like to play with his brother, even if it's only for a year. So, that being said, if Armond get's into ND - meaning he is cleared medically, then I think he comes AND Arik comes. BUT, if Armond doesn't end up at ND, I feel like there is no chance that Arik comes to ND without his brother, because in this situation I think he stays close to family and ends up at Cal.

How this relates to Cwyaner, I don't think he is back regardless, but does it look bad to essentially replace him with a USC guy? PR appearances, maybe. Reality? No. Here is why. Cwyaner, I love that you picked ND, I am glad you had your 4 years, but you had your chance to prove yourself. If you come back as a 5th year guy, you will still be coming back as a back up - to a JR, who you backed up when that guy was a SOPH. You never quite made it over the hump, and now we have a chance to take a guy who may end up as a high round draft pick, why wouldn't we take him? If Cwynar was KLM we wouldn't be having this discussion, but he is not. Nor is anyone upset that we are loosing a guy like Goodman to take a guy like Amir, you had your chance to prove yourself, you had 4 years, now it's time to move along. If you didn't start as a SR, and the guy ahead of you is still there, whether a 4 or 5 star recruit replaces you, or an incoming transfer, you don't have the right to be upset, you had your chance.

One last point, if we are questioning whether or not we should say goodbye to an ND guy who was at ND, to accept a transfer in, well isn't the transfer in guy now an ND guy also? And are we going to say he Cwynar, you should stay because you were an ND guy for 4 years and Armond would only be an ND guy for 1 yr? Do we say that people that transfer out of ND aren't ND guys? Is there some criteria where you have to be at ND for so long before you can be an ND guy? What about Crist? He left ND, is he not an ND guy? Or, what about Spencer Boyd? He was only at ND a semester before transferring out to be near family? Or what about Lombard? Here is my point, let's not judge this debate about picking one ND guy over another guy based on our own arbitrary definition of an ND guy, that sound ridiculous. Here is the other thing, you want to win? We need the best 22 guys we can get to be on the field, if the staff feels that letting Cwynar walk and brings in Armond, then we should all be on board.

Here is to hoping both Armstead brothers are wearing Blue and Gold next year! chug
