Atkinson Track Update

Josh Atkinson got the better of his brother George III on the track this weekend during the Big East championship meet. Josh ran a 10.39 in the 100 meter dash finals to finish fourth in the conference, one spot ahead of George who finished in 10.46 seconds.
George's qualifying time in the previous heat (10.36) was the fourth fastest of any college football player on the track this spring. Josh also finished fourth in the 200 meter dash.
The two brothers combined as the lead-off man and the anchor for Notre Dame's 4x100 relay team, which also finished fourth in the conference. Their efforts helped lead Notre Dame to its eighth Big East championship.

GAIII, Chris Brown, and Davonte Neal can all be game changers with their speed on offense. Hopefully GAIII figures out ball security by the Navy game!!

I love that we are gonna have some speed again. I remember talking to my brother one game and commenting on how ND players don't look like they're running as fast as other schools seem to run. Was it NBC cameras were zoomed in closer than other networks had their cameras? NO!!! We were actually slower. Love the speed Coach Kelly.

Those are great times considering that the winner of the 100m at the Oregon Twilight track meet last weekend was Ryan Hamilton from Washington in 10.51.
The highly regarded Oregon running back De'Anthony Thomas ran a 10.65 !

-- George Atkinson III & Josh Atkinson have the 2 fastest 100m dash times recorded this year by freshman college football players.
-- Among all college football players running track this spring, the Atkinson twins rank 5th and 6th nationally.
-- GAIII's time of 10.36 and Josh's 10.39 are 2nd & 3rd fastest 100m times by ND track runners. Only faster? Rocket Ismail ran 10.34 in '91.

And GAIII ran that time at 6'1 215 lbs which is about 3 inches taller and 25 lbs heavier than the other CFB players running track. Very very impressive time.

With their performances in the 100m over the weekend proof that George and Josh Atkinson are fast, I wanted to dig a little deeper into the question, The answer, as it turns out, is really, really fast.
