Both teams go down in order in the second inning. Fitzgerald looked to find a little more control after struggling to hit spots in the first. Seton Hall's starter, Jon Prosinski, is one of the better in the Big East when he is locating his pitches well. He doesn't appear to be having much of a problem with the Irish hitters so far.
Seton Hall got to Fitzgerald again in the third inning for three more runs. A walk and an error got things going. A comebacker from three-hole hitter Scott Kalamar plated the first run. Then Giuseppe Papaccio and Sal Annunziata hit back-to-back doubles to right field to score the others. All three runs were unearned.
No score in the fourth inning. Notre Dame gets its first baserunner but can't move him past first base.
Irish get some offense going in the bottom of the fifth. Notre Dame plays small ball to score three times and make the score 4-3.
Fitzgerald follows with his best inning from the mound. Two strikeouts and a fly ball and Notre Dame is back in the dugout to take another hack at Prosinski.
Notre Dame goes down in order in the sixth.
Fitzgerald gets two more strikeouts. He's K'd four of the last six batters he's faced, also went over 100 pitches during that inning. We head to the seventh inning stretch with Notre Dame trailing by one.
Fitzgerald's day is over in the bottom of the eighth. He threw 7.1 innings, gave up four runs on four hits only one earned run. He struck out seven and walked two.
Headed to the ninth inning. Notre Dame still trails by a run. Eight of the last 10 games between the Irish and Seton Hall have been decided by one run.
