  • I listen to Beano's podcast on ESPN every week -- and I enjoy it immensely -- but I hope either Lou or Roger was able to ask Beano where his deep-seeded dislike of ND comes from. He literally admits it every podcast that he's never been a fan of ND -- that we're too cocky now and arrogant -- but I'm curious where that all began. I figured he would be all about the academic standards and the fact that ND chooses to do things the "right way". Whenever he talks about academic standards he literally only cites Stanford and Northwestern...never us.

I respect him a lot but it's something I've wondered for a while

  • NotreDameFIGHT,

I talk to Beano frequently. He respects Notre Dame, venerates Father Hesburgh as "the greatest college president of the 20th century," repeatedly states that Frank Leahy was the greatest coach of all time and also likes their alumni.

What he dislikes is how ND or its fans constantly whine about academic standards when they are losing. He still believes that on a yearly basis the Irish sign more talent than 90 percent of the schools and has so many other advantages ... yet they come across like the rich guy complaining that the hot tub in his limousine is not providing as warm a water as it should.

He believes there was more of a "working man" feel to Notre Dame in the past, but now everything about it has become money, and it isn't looking out for the greater good like it used to.

    Lou Somogyi

  • I keep getting an error from my WMP saying the file is not compatible. I always use WMP to listne. Is there another default player I should use now?

My luck w/the Irish 18-6...GO IRISH!!!

That's a great response...thanks for the insight. I can see that as very valid on Beano's party -- still is a shame that such a group of ND fans can spoil the whole lot from a perception standpoint. Unfortunately a lot of those fans are the non-alumni...I appreciate the information though, Lou, keep up the fantastic work!
