I had forgotten about Clements' run for first down after the pass to Weber. "Wow!"
Very underrated play, as well as the 30-yard grab Casper made on third-and-short at the Alabama 20 to set up the go-ahead field goal. Had Clements not picked up that second first down near mid-field, ND might have had to punt from its 25-30 with just under a minute to go. Who knows, a blocked punt, a missed snap ...
Clements was just brilliant in that game. There was a play in the third quarter where ND was down 17-14 and backed up at its five. Clements went back to pass into his end zone and appeared dead in his tracks for a safety. That could have tilted everything toward Alabama. Someway, he ducked under and escaped the pass rush and got the ball out to about the 12 before having to punt. Very overlooked play.
