Bleacher Report

  • I wanted to see some opinions from the board on their thoughts on Bleacher Report. I always have thought it's terrible "journalism" and very poor content. They finalized their sale today to Turner Sports for $200MM, what do you guys think?

  • I'd rather shower at PSU than read Bleacher Report

    Too soon?........

Even if it is, I feel the same way. That's a mind blowing valuation to me.

    Hilarious!!

The way I see BR is that it isn't meant to be real Jounalism. It's just people like you and me expressing their opinions. For me, viewing it that way makes it more tolerable. I take each story or whatever you want to call it with a grain of salt. Sometimes I agree with something a writer might say and sometimes not.

  • BR is awful. It's content without quality.

    brawlinghiberni

  • I equate BR to normal "fans" trying to write catchy articles....but its total garbage. I wish 24/7 had an app though, would be nice.

  • What bothers me about BR (among many things) is that real news gets buried on Google searches. Considering there are about 7,590 Notre Dame bloggers on BR, the site often comes up first (and second, third, fourth and fifth). I agree, it's entertaining to read such opinions, but it's not journalism by any stretch of the imagination. I've never seen someone with a BR credential show up to a press conference, practice or game.

Wes, if BR is worth $200MM, I can't imagine what 247 is worth (far better content), setting an interesting multiple moving forward

  • I subscribe to BR, the articles are full of opinion - some are ok, most are just regurgitated homerism.

  • Bleacher Report was sold for nearly $200 million is what I think the poster was referring to and comparing it to what the value of 247 may be. Not sure what that value would be now but Shannon Terry and Co. sold Rivals to Yahoo back in 2007 for nearly $100 million($98 mil is the # I read).

I treat Bleacher Report as another blog site or discussion board. It definitely should not be treated as a newsworthy source. There are a couple of alright guys on there. I know one kid in particular majors in journalism at IU and has used it to hone his craft. His name is Connor Killoran and he writes about ND football but again I don't treat his information as newsworthy. Just a good kid to banter with.

I read Connor, he takes criticism well and definitely wants feedback so as to be a better writer.

Candidly when I compare him to Lou, Jason, Wes, Steve et al., he does need to improve but who knows maybe 247 or one of TOS will give him a shot.

He's still a college student without the access/resources/connections that these guys have so he's trying to formulate articles of his limited accessibility.

  • One of the founders of Bleacher Report is a 2005 Notre Dame alum. The 4 founders were all 20 somethings that wanted to create a giant blog forum for sports fans to discuss sports. I would say selling it for $175 MILLION was an added bonus! SMH

  • They have some pretty interesting stuff from time to time. It fills the void whenever I've read every article and post here. Most of the articles are just someone's opinion and speculation on a variety of topics. Sometimes one article will contradict another but I love reading anything about ND
