The Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team is the #2 seed in the 2013 NCAA Championships bracket released tonight—and the Irish play host to MAAC champion Detroit at 5 p.m. Saturday at Arlotta Stadium in their first-round matchup. The Irish earned their seed by virtue of wins over NCAA teams seeded #3 (Ohio State), #4 (Denver), #5 (North Carolina), #7 (Duke) and #8 (Penn State). The No. 2 seed is the best ever for Notre Dame. This is the sixth time overall--and fifth time in the last six seasons--the Fighting Irish have earned one of the eight national seeds for the NCAA Championship. The Irish also were seeded for the 2001 (5th), 2008 (6th), 2009 (7th), 2011 (4th) and 2012 (4th) tournaments. Notre Dame faced six of the other seven seeded teams from the field.
The Irish women’s lacrosse team (12-4) meets Stanford (13-5) at 7 pm CDT Friday in a first-round NCAA Championships matchup in Evanston, Ill. The winner of that game meets #2 seed Northwestern at 1 pm CDT Sunday in Evanston. Notre Dame opened its 2013 season with a 12-10 win at Stanford.
Good luck to both teams!
