  • Its time for another BK to The Great Merlin sit down. You saw the game, you were there last year. Save your ND career bro...go with Golson. Don't screw up the greatest opportunity in your life coaching at ND over Tommy Rees. Pull him aside, tell Golson he's the man and do whatever you have to to get this talented kid ready to start in Ireland.

  • What I am hearing is that Kelly is going to throw a qb out there and hope for the best. I guess, that's all he can do.

I'm just praying this isn't deja vu to the last time we had this situation in our backfield. The ultra talented dual threat gets the nod and the fanbase (D. Jones; Golson), over the steady game manager (Sharpley; Rees) and total package (Frazer; Hendrix). Only to struggle, get yanked and then all of a sudden the season is shot and the hot-shot FR is thrown into the fire (Kiel; Clausen). We've seen Kelly react to a bad first half before. All it would take would be a couple muffed snaps and a pick and Navy could have us down 21-7 with their ball control. If he can't get it down, I don't know if Kelly puts him out there for Navy even if he is the highest upside.

Won't be the same if for no other reason then, if this exact situation did happen again, we'd at least have an O-Line and a defense to support the QB struggles. The rest of the team is far superior to 2007.

  • I agree on that aspect, but if Golson struggles like Crist did in the opening half, Kelly can't turn to Rees or the fan base will riot.

Golson has a bigger chest than Crist. That wont be an issue.

Did you watch the spring game earlier today? Golson = "total package"?

For the sake of my comparison and consensus opinion, Hendrix would be the total package to a scout. Bigger and taller with athleticism and an arm. The prototypical size like Frazer had, and he's similarly having problems putting it together. Golson is a total package in the sense he's a dual threat but he doesn't have the size to see over defenses so he has to scramble and roll more.

I can see that, and Kelly mentioned he would be used more on the edge with roll outs. Last year Wisconsin had Russell as their QB who transferred from NC State. Russell measured shorter than 6' tall at the NFL combine, and often rolled out in their offensive attack (they run the ball extremely well). I can envision Golson being similar and hopefully an accurate passer like Russell.

  • Couldn't agree more. He needs to get under center and get the reps to be ready to play. It's obvious that he has what it takes over Rees/Hendrix.
