Compare OSU's penalties with USC's penalties

  • Did each get a fair penalty ?

Did one, or both get off too easy ?

Did one, or both get too hard a penalty ?

  • USC should have to forfeit all wins in it's history, have a bowl ban until 2099, be allowed only three scholarship players every year for the next 72 years, and all current players should have to smack Kiffin before the start of every practice.

OSU should have to forfeit all wins in any year Tressel was at the helm, should only be allowed to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl for the next 13 years, and all players should have to get ND tattoos.

  • OSU got off incredibly easy!!

Whenever an admistrator stands at the microphone and says that the punishments are a lot harsher than he expected... BUT, we will not appeal.

Seriously, you only don't appeal these things when you know you got off really, really good.

  • Tressel got exactly what he deserved.

OSU got off way too easy and yes what they did was worse than USC. 5 players (that we know of) broke the rules, Tressel tried to cover it up and then lied about it....4 frickin' times. THEN 2 of those 5 players turned right around and did it again! They are partying in Columbus today.

  • The NCAA historically speaking has always gone lenient on B1G schools. Always. Not sure why.

OSU got a wrist slap compared to what USC got and what UNC and Miami are going to get.

My luck w/the Irish 18-6...GO IRISH!!!

  • Tressel got the worst of it as he should have. He has the "leper" tag on him now. What the players did was stupid and greedy but, like we say when one of ours screws up ( Ragone, Floyd ) , they are kids and we hope they learn from it. Tressel should have known better and traded integrity for wins.

  • I don't want OSU players to learn from their mistakes. I encourage them to continue doing what they've always done and am quite confident they will.

  • Apples and Oranges comparison. USC was hit with "lack of institutional control"...OSU with "failure to monitor". USC was slapped with its second violation in under 5 years...thus a repeat offender. Did that play a part in the punishment? From most reports, OSU was much more proactive and forthcoming with the NCAA. Could that have helped when determining their punishment?

  • i think OSU got off easy, i thought they should lose more scholarships and get a two year ban like USC on bowls.

    First time POTW for 4/18/2011-4/24/2011.

George, not every pronouncement on this board is made in the context of its relationship to Notre Dame. We're not idiots who are incapable of assessing right and wrong independent of it happening to a rival, nor are we oblivious to the fact that Notre Dame has a few warts of its own. The notion that the "kids learn from it" like we hope Ragone and Floyd did has no bearing on the fact that it involved NCAA violations. Other than that, I agree with dpfenny's analysis. Being a second offender in that time frame was probably a factor, but I still think that OSU got off a little light.

  • I'm OK with that but no matter what OSU's penalty, it will have no effect on our fortunes.
