USC should have to forfeit all wins in it's history, have a bowl ban until 2099, be allowed only three scholarship players every year for the next 72 years, and all current players should have to smack Kiffin before the start of every practice.
OSU should have to forfeit all wins in any year Tressel was at the helm, should only be allowed to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl for the next 13 years, and all players should have to get ND tattoos.

Tressel got exactly what he deserved.
OSU got off way too easy and yes what they did was worse than USC. 5 players (that we know of) broke the rules, Tressel tried to cover it up and then lied about it....4 frickin' times. THEN 2 of those 5 players turned right around and did it again! They are partying in Columbus today.

Apples and Oranges comparison. USC was hit with "lack of institutional control"...OSU with "failure to monitor". USC was slapped with its second violation in under 5 years...thus a repeat offender. Did that play a part in the punishment? From most reports, OSU was much more proactive and forthcoming with the NCAA. Could that have helped when determining their punishment?

George, not every pronouncement on this board is made in the context of its relationship to Notre Dame. We're not idiots who are incapable of assessing right and wrong independent of it happening to a rival, nor are we oblivious to the fact that Notre Dame has a few warts of its own. The notion that the "kids learn from it" like we hope Ragone and Floyd did has no bearing on the fact that it involved NCAA violations. Other than that, I agree with dpfenny's analysis. Being a second offender in that time frame was probably a factor, but I still think that OSU got off a little light.
