Danny Freaking Spond....
I feel like he does not get the love he deserves. I still think he was one of the major reasons for beating Michigan. They way he sealed the sideline was terrific all year.
Spond is physical, quick and has legitimate closing speed. His tackling has been superb as well.
There were several games this year that he never came out of. This guy needs some love.
“Notre Dame? Relevant? Of course. Call me in 90 years, and I’ll give you the same answer.” Neal Pilson, former president of CBS Sports
Unreal all around linebacker. He's a real real football player. Especially considering he played qb in high school. He's just like russell. Just wanted to help the team in any way and ended up being superb
He played a very difficult and thankless position about as well as I've seen it played the last 25 years here. It's not a position where you're necessarily going to put up big numbers — but it is one you notice if someone isn't playing well (sort of like a great referee or umpire).
My first thought for Most Underrated was Kapron Lewis-Moore, but a good case can be made for Spond.
And of the many post-season honors right now, the most overlooked on the team is Zack Martin, who according to Brian Kelly, "lapped the field" among the o-linemen when it came to grading out consistently with his production and technique.
The defense really turned the corner when Spond returned. His return corresponded with the 4 game stretch where the defense failed to surrender a TD
I love Shembo.... but we all noticed how bad shembo was at that position. He was out of position.
I think we all give Martin love, but we never mention Spond.
Theo Riddick...All the talk all year was about Teo and Eifert and Golson and the quarterback position and the overall defense....And rightfully so.
But Theo pounded out big time plays when we need them the most. Both in the air and on the ground he kept drives going that won games. He gets my vote.
I feel like most of the defense that isn't the D-Line or Te'o, particularly the secondary, qualifies. Farley, Russell, Motta, Spond, Jackson, Fox--they all were relentless in chasing down the ball and were fantastic in pass and run coverage. We heard all year about ND's front seven, and rightly so. But rarely did the secondary get the recognition it deserved for keeping opposing teams out of the end zone and being stingy with first downs (though not total passing yards).
Fun to have what was once a ragtag group of mostly green players, some of whom changed positions (Farley, Russell), were almost out for good (Spond), or weren't the first choice for their position (pretty much all of them) coalesce into an incredibly reliable unit.
Kapron Lewis Moore hands down. Our d started with the line. He plays a thankless position in our scheme eating up blocks yet was still able to make big play after big play. Our front is responsible for allowing Teo to be Teo. Without them the heisman should be manziels. However, we do have them and Teo was robbed. Best most inspirational player on the best team and best defense. In order to win the Heisman you need to show up big in the big games not just one of the three. I would trade a NC though. Fuel to the fire. Go Irish! Time to show the nation what it means to be Irish!!!!!
My vote goes to K-Rus. We asked a high school RB to play corner as a true freshman. When we found out that news, we immediately knew our secondary would be absolute poo. What K-Rus has done this year is unbelievable to me.

I think Spond had a great year. Very underrated this year. Good choice.
Two time Poster of The Week, 2011 and 2013.
Farley made several game saving tackles this year
Martin got enough attention. He's the best. I thought Watt was under appreciated. Never called for errors untill the last two games. But Spond is my pick. And that long haired guy played very well.
