It does not matter who we play. We will get our asses kicked. This is not a top 5 te. BC is flat out awful and we could not dominate them. There will be no national championship for us. If we are lucky enough to get by wake USC will kick our butts
Im sure you probably thought Michigan State, Michigan, Miami, Stanford, and Oklahoma were going to kill us too. Chill were 10-0. This team finds a way to win each game. If you want to see a pretty W. Move to Eugene Oregon. Theres a lot of football to be played... playing a big 10 champ in the rose bowl seems likely and theres not a big 10 team that scares me out there. OR Kstate for that matter. We are what we are. 10-0.

I think we all agree we need to play better, but we can't ignore how we've played against team with equal or "superior" talent. We've dominated when we had to and won all the rest.

I'm not going to agree with you categorically, Fitzi, but this IS beginning to look like a team that is running out of gas, playing sloppier, playing tight, playing not to lose, not protecting the ball, and showing real signs of being in a place it's never been before.
Winning is expected now, if not outright demanded. That's not my dictum, but it certainly is the public's at large.
Yet, games like this occur. I remember Ara beating Navy 14-6 with a 10-2 team in 74 and the 88 NC team beating another awful Navy team only 22-7.
BC had nothing to lose tonight and everything to prove. Still, if ND had the kind of firepower some of its top 5 rivals have, BC would have been blown away.
ND is not yet that kind of team on a consistent basis. Not even against 2-7 outfits.
My hope is that the team can navigate Wake next week, play like an underdog against USC, viz. replicate the OU effort, and go into the NC game or another BCS game like the upstart cinderella it is.
But playing well against decidedly worse teams is still not a part of its repertoire.
So if by chance Oregon loses tonight....which looks like a distinct possibility at the moment.....maybe ND should refuse a bid to the championship game so you won't have to watch Fitzi....
CITY OF CHAMPYINZ!!!!!!
We only had three posessions in the first half and scored tds on two of them. We fumbled twice which hurt our chances of putting up more points. We didn't give up a td again. We are 10-0 that's all that matters if you want to believe we can't beat good teams or are out of gas that's your opinion and I won't downvote anyone for speaking their mind but I still believe in this team! No we don't blow teams out but that's okay because we don't lose either. We beat MSU MICH Stanford and Oklahoma. How many of us really thought before the season that was possible? Sure I would say we had a chance in any of those games but to not let one slip away is amazing. Just to be 10-0 my goodness I was 12 years old the last time I could say that. What a year! God bless and GO IRISH!
It's just tough playing garbage teams. You have nothing to gain and everything to lose. I, too, long for the day when we step on teams' throats and have our 2nd or 3rd string QB throwing TDs in the 3rd quarter, but we're just not there yet, and that's fine.

We as this team's fans have to be able to understand that the plan each week is NOT to come out swinging and try to get up by 50, which we could absolutely try to do and probably sometimes succeed.
The plan is to beat our opponents by playing our game--keeping possession, limiting defensive reps to keep them fresh and dominant, and grinding out yards--and we have done that 10 times in a row this year. We are 10-0 by design and a little luck. Being 10-0 yet having lower victory margins is much better than being 9-1 or 8-2 but passing the "look test" by putting up more points. Because if we weren't playing to our strengths like we are now, that's what we'd be. Our offense is just not there yet.
We are the fans, we watch our team each and every week... it's understandable if the people who only see the final scores and highlights think that way but we should know better.
Well said +1.
Guyjin... that is one of the few rational and logical posts i have seen tonight. We have far to many fans that want this team to be oregon. Score 100 let the other team score 80. The biggest problem witb the bcs is on display here tonight. To be the best you have to score a bizillion points. Where is the defensive "style" points that will get us the human vote? We are one of only two teams in the country holding opponents under 10pts. Wheres the love for that?

Hey Futzi, just like Oklahoma, genius?
Absolutely. It's ironic that since we finally have a stout defense and an emerging offense, we're undefeated and longing for those Clausen and Quinn offensive numbers. I'll take holding teams to 0 TDs over scoring 5 or 6 ourselves.

why do you pay membership if you put posts on here like this? idiot
Some people will pay 10 bucks a months for two years so they spew hate on a team. It makes you think what type of a--h--- loves their life like that.
Agreed. Last sentence says it all.
This type of game(probably the most boring of the year for many reasons) against a weaker opponent that we cant dominate should continue to remind us that we arent THAT good. Other than Eifert, name one current player we have that you cant honestly see as a slamdunk first or second rounder amongst the skill positions. All the WR, RB, TE, kick/punt return. Anywhere.
We DONT have that kind of firepower. We will never(this year) be up big early. It hasnt happened all year(well, Navy sorta) so I dont expect it next week either vs WFU. Expect us to win, but not in runaway fashion.
While the OP is grossly pessimistic, I wont cast him in with the crazies based on our current talent levels, not too mention the uncertainty with arguably one of our best WRs health in question.
We can most certainly beat anyone in the land. USC will be a dogfight, THEIR superbowl. And who wouldnt want to see Diaco vs Chipper in early January. If we are fortunate enough to watch us beat USC and see KSU fall(although I think last night may have been the best opportunity for this), I think Diaco, with a month to prepare, could smoke and mirror us into neutralizing the Ducks just enough.
In sum, ND hovers just above the level of competition it plays against.
Just a foolish post. Sober up!!
Irish Oak in Chicago
oh only if we can down vote multiple times
BC only got in the red zone once, Notre Dame,2 long TD drives, left some points on the board,at the end of the day 10-0,gee KSU only beat North Texas by 14 this season thats a team thats ahead of Notre Dame in the polls.
