The Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame will honor three former Irish football stars and one former Notre Dame assistant football coach Sept. 18 at Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero, Ill., at its annual induction dinner. All four honorees with Notre Dame connections played high school football in the Chicago area.
* Former Heisman Trophy winner and Fenwick High School standout John Lattner. He will receive the George Connor Lifetime Achievement Award. He played for the Irish from 1951-53 and won the Heisman as a senior in 1953.
• Former Irish (1990-93) and NFL Minnesota Viking linebacker Pete Bercich. He’s from Providence Catholic High School.
• Former Irish (1993-96) and NFL New Orleans, New York Giants, Washington and Jacksonville defensive lineman Renaldo Wynn. He’s from De La Salle High School.
• Late Irish assistant football coach (1977-83) and longtime NFL Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson. He’s from Proviso East High School.
