Way back in Oct., I posted my concern that we did not have a "big" man in this class to take over for Nix after next year unless someone that we already had really surprised us. Well, now, we got him. You probably have seen Eddie's highlights. He is unbelievably quick off the ball. Period. No qualifier like " for a man his size ".
I can hear the chant now EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE !
I just wonder if that's the plan or not, we sold him on the 3 and 5 techniques and I remember a coaching staff quote saying they like him at the weight he's already at.
That is not the plan for EV. He will be more of the DE that slides inside in certain fronts a la Tuitt. Jarron Jones is being groomed for the interior
Jason stated that he would become a Louis Nix type of player. I interpreted that to mean NG. A DE ( ND terminology) would take adventage of his speed more than being a hole plugger so what you guys wrote makes sense.
As far a J Jones, he is very tall for NG.
Time will tell where guys end up, but the coaches will put them in the best place. Having a difference maker at NG has been great and I hope we get someone who can not only plug holes, push the offensive line back on passes, but can blow through a gap and wrap up a back like Louis does.
If he's asked to do it then he'll do it, no doubt about it. I think he 'co-starts' with Day next year and then once Nix leaves we'll see what happens, probably depends on if we get Enoch Smith or Craig Evens. I'm more excited for 3rd and longs next season, the thought of Shembo-EV-Tuitt-J.Smith all rushing the passer is mouth watering.

Jarron Jones. Vanderdoes will primarily play DE and move to the middle on passing downs.
I agree with others that EV will play everywhere with quite a bit of DE. That said, even if he is mostly DT it solves our problem for 1 year is all. Once Nix is gone you'll need another guy. It's my belief you recruit a 4/5 star DT every cycle or at minimum 3/4 years.
This isn't a math test, passion has a funny of trumping logic.
You will see another heavy focus on OL and DL in the next cycle.
Jones himself stated that the ND staff wants him inside and that is where he has been working since last season.
I may not be pretty, but I'm fast.....
