Are you gone yet?
I remember 1974 all too well. Losing Ross Browner, Willie Fry, Luther Bradley and Al Hunter all at once? In terms of this year's ND team, that would probably be akin to losing Golson and EV - along with Tuitt and Nix - all at once. Imagine THAT scenario.
ND football may be romaticized by its fans, but it has always had its trials. Always. And so far, it's survived every one of them.
Best of luck, Craig. Following teams with higher standards is not for all of us. I'm not being insulting here. My pastor is one of the greatest guys I've ever known, and he's a huge 'Bama fan. For him, it's about winning. He understands that their program is not about educating student athletes, but about winning at just about any cost. He follows the Tide as a football program rather than an educational institution. Most of us follow Notre Dame for both reasons. We want to win, but we know we have a harder product to sell in today's world. A lot of kids are in football now for the NFL much more than for team or love of the game, and a lot more are from high schools that don't produce many kids that could possibly succeed at Notre Dame.
I would love to promise "no more fires," but it's not realistic. Kids are going to be wowed by Brian Kelly and the allure of the Golden Dome. They're going to leave home and then miss it. They're going to realize the academics are far more demanding than they thought, and they're going to be in contact with other kids who tell them they're idiots for working so hard when could have the easy life at 'Bama or Texas or wherever. Kelly has a much greater challenge than other coaches, and so will end up with some fires that must be put out.
Again, I wish you good fortune. However, I do want to assert that it's still profanity if you put blanks in the place of certain letters.
its kind of like a GF breaking up with you but doing it in your kitchen, giving one last shot to change a perceived wrong, kinda sad.
Alright. We've agreed that this thread has run its course.
