Honorable mention for George Atkinson.
Here's a list of the fastest players in college football this fall, based on verified track marks.
Anybody else catch this:
Studies have shown that such hand-based methods are prone to error and wipe away, on average, at least .24 seconds off the real time of a race. So that "official" 4.35 you think your favorite player ran at the combine? Yeah, it was probably more like a 4.69.
POTW 6.4.2012 - 6.10.2012 & 3.4.2013 - 3.10.2013
I did that is crazy, but I believe it 100%. Just nothing sexy about about 4.6 - 4.9 but that is the reality.

amigo el número cuatro
Totally agree - I think public perception on 40 times has gotten really extreme based on hand-timed and self-reported numbers. It starts actually probably with recruits who all supposedly run a 4.4 or 4.5, then announcers state it as a fact during a game, and then during the combine everyone is surprised when they run a 4.75.
I don't think that football fast and 40 fast are the same.
Lots of guys are 40 fast and get caught from behind on the field.
I'll take football fast any day of the week.
Many of you know me and that I am a rugby man, many years ago but pretty good. You also know that I am a fanatical fan but not american football savvy.
Having said that I know sport. How many times does a player get to display 100 meter speed? Rarely! And many times when they do (a LA Cierre last year) it is against players that can't come close.
My point is the "fastest" players I played against weren't the fastest. They were the quickest! The speed over the the first 5 or 7 yards is what makes the difference, football or rugby.
There you have it my first technical post!!!
Gringo Mafia VP of Guinness Intake, once drank Guinness under the table while drinking Guinness with Guinness! POTW 12/24/12 and 7/8/13
Our posts crossed. My point exactly.
Although, an interesting point. I was actually referring to the math (or lack thereof).
