1) The reason why we had issues In this game (and the two games before) this in the running game is
not because of bad coaching by our offensive line coaching, it's because:
A) Lack of a down the field passing game. Until we can prove that we can throw the ball
down the field, teams will do what Purdue did, in that play a 5-2 front 7 with a SS close to the box.
Against good a coached team with at least solid front 7 talent, ND will struggle establishing a
2) Very impressed with the upside and the improved fundamentals at WR from Daniels.
3) Very impressed with the consistency and improved fundamentals at WR from T.J Jones.
4) Golson was bad (I am being nice). Even the passes he completed were not thrown well.
He is young and will have his ups and down this year (As I expected him to), but for ND to beat
most good teams going forward, he needs to play at least solid smart football, like he did at
5) After Golson struggled, Kelly did the smart thing by bringing in Rees and playing conservative.
He did not want to give MICH cheep scores from turnovers.
6) Rees played smart football and by played within his limitations. He ran the team smoothly.
7) Brinza was money on that first FG, which was very important points for ND to break the ice to
1) Great game plan by Diaco and the rest of the defensive staff. They used the perfect blueprint to
stop Denard, by:
A) Keeping him inside of the pocket on both of his passes and his on his runs.
B) Having delayed blitzes on him, made him confused.
C) Had the defensive linemen push the pocket back and have their arms up.
This gave Denard problems (Because of his lack of height) when had had to pass.
2) Really great play by Teo, Spond, Shembo.
3) Really good play by Motta, Farley, Jackson, Tuitt and solid play by the rest
of the defensive players who played in the 1ST half.
1) Did not like that Brinza was not kicking the ball out of the end-zone, because that FROSH KR
Norfleet is dangerous!

The analysis is right on. It was tough early on for the offense to get in rhythm with the lack of possession due to the turnovers. Everret was just trying to make plays and forcing it obviously. I also think that the formations are run sets so the defense is more rdy for that. Last year we ran the ball a lot more by spreading teams out I have not seen that at all. Molnar was obviously good. Martin is too, just different style, little more conservative.
Thanks, also last year we had Floyd, who was an impact player and Trevor Robinson (Who is a much better player then Golic)
Thanks for your thoughts, Tony. Appreciate them.
Nice job! I'm on viewing number 3!
2 time POTW winner on some dates I can't remember from 2yrs ago at BNG,
POTW: 1/3/11- 1/9/11, 6/20/11-6/26/11
we really need to start stretching the field in the passing game, hopefully we can start to open things up a bit.

or, maybe it's because the head coach has never been committed to the run game. you can tell there's obvious games where the run game is going to be the focal point (a la navy), but we generally revert back to the short passing game. it's who we are, and it doesn't matter that we have nfl running backs and no nfl receivers. it's who kelly is. there's no need to really go in-depth for this year, last, or any other year under kelly.
we are a pass-first team, and a pass-first offense.......everybody should understand that by now.
IMO, the last year and so far this year, we have been much more balanced on offense. Our problem this year has been QB play
Thanks for the kind words guys!
Sorry, not a very accurate analysis (I am being nice). Most of these thoughts lack an understanding of execution, with the exceptions of Daniels having great upside and Jones being more consistent.
Okay, explain why it's not a accurate analysis?
On defense, the other thing that I have noticed in each of our games, is that the fundamental tackling has improved. In prior years, the thing that would drive me nuts was the yards after first contact. We have really improved in that area.
Agree 100%, good point!
