Does anyone recall that savage hit Golson took late in the Stanford game? I have visions of those types of hits on Golson in the future but without Gunner Kiel, that really scares the shite out of me. Kiel shows that it is mostly about him and very little for old Notre Dame! Most indicative of the era in which we live!

One time POTW winner.
Get over it. Gunner was a misfit for coach kelly spread offense.
I am not concerned that Gunner is leaving. IMHO he was not going to be a number 2 this year.
Sorry that Gunner didn't want to stick around for 3 more seasons waiting for Golson to get hurt so you wouldn't be pissed. The kid wants to play.
I disagee. In an age gone by of college football ringers would show up in different uniforms on a week-by-week basis, not year-by-year.
There are as many loyal Notre Dame diehard football players as there were 30 years ago and 60 years ago. There are also as many players who would just as soon put on another jersey if it gave them a chance to compete -- and there is nothing wrong with that attitude. Advances in communication and a greater ability to watch athletes and teams in other regions are what makes transfers in the 21st century more feasible, not a lack of loyalty or character flaw among a younger generation.

As he should be.
The kid is doing whats best for him. Get over it.
I don't have an issue with it at all. He obviously didn't see himself playing, which in turn, does us a favor for another schollie. Good Luck Gunner.
Exactly - well said. Wish Gunner the best HE wants to play. I believe that behind 'closed doors' he didn't see that the odds were stacking up in his favor. As 65too posted " If Kelly had wanted to keep Kiel he would have kept Kiel". Again wish Gunner the best and let's all move on. GO IRISH!

A little fantasy projecting, are we? ;)
2-Time POTW winner
I stole them from some architect on Irishenvy or one of the other sites.
Here is why I am really angry.... I bought the hype on Gunner Kiel's talent. All I heard was how gifted this lad is and that he had some huge upside. So I am not that out of line for wanting to see him get his chance in a ND uniform. Listen, I do not begrudge him anything at all. I just wish it would have worked out for him at ND!
He ranks about number 37 on the roster of the guys on the team who I would not want to transfer. It hurts a bit, but only if he ends up panning out elsewhere and Golson has a serious injury early this season. If neither of those two happen, this is not a bid deal at all.
On the 1/2 full side of the glass...
it does free up uniform #1 for sombody on offense....
