This Eagles Interview during the Recruiting Dead Period is a 4 day window for Kelly to give Swarbrick a list of wishes that he believes are needed to take Notre Dame to the next level. A bump is salary is the easiest thing to provide, but is not the most important thing on that list. Getting thumped by Alabama may have been the best thing that ever happened to any fan of Notre Dame Football who wants to see championships. What a wake up call. It is no secret that Notre Dame fans are a little bit delusional about their Program's place in the modern era of BCS football. If you believe the rumors, Stoops had a list of wishes that were rejected. Meyer had a list of wishes that were rejected. Well, maybe Kelly just presented a similar list. And now we wait. Notre Dame is on the clock. Recruiting season beings in 3 days. So, ND Nation, do you want to win? Can you hear Kelly? DO YOU WANT TO WIN? Tick Tock Tick Tock.

Awesome post. Agree 100%
Lot of truth in this
GOD..COUNTRY..NOTRE DAME... THEN HUNTING
I don't know Cedar...interesting perspective ....but I think Kelly is much to smart and has too good of a relationship with Swarbrick to be so damn clumsy...
CITY OF CHAMPYINZ!!!!!!
I immediately said raise plow. But your additions I didn't think of and are spot. Good post
This isn't a math test, passion has a funny of trumping logic.
Plus 400, oops can only give you 1. Excellent post, Kelly is the following:
A good family man
A good coach
A business man
A man who loves Notre Dame
A man who loves coaching Notre Dame
A man whom Swarbrick respects
A man who knows what it takes to get to the top
A man who will coach ND for a long time
A man much smarter than Merlin who calls him an idiot.
Merlin send me your address and I will send you a dollar

Recruiting Dead Period is January 9 to January 13.
Story on ESPN breaks the evening of January 9. Imagine that.
I know Kelly was a proponent of the field being converted to field turf, swarbrick commented that he didn't see ant changes coming to the field a couple of days ago, oh yeah, and that jumbotron it's coming too!!!
Ok everyone says don't panic. But you guys can't do the opposite either. Right now we don't know if this is good or bad. Ultimately it is fishy to say the least
Dead period: January 7-10

Then we won't have to wait very long then.
This is an excellent post Cedar. I concur with many of those ideas/thoughts

What a dumb post. Stop the BS. Yeah a jumbotron or field turf or getting in 2-3 extra kids would have changed us to a championship team. Regardless if Kelly leaves or not, he's a hypocrit.

I don't love him because of the unsupported, pure speculation posed in the original post of this thread. Jack Swarbrick has been very aggressive as an athletics director in restoring the football program. He seems like the kind of businessman that would have responded just as well had Kelly requested a 1-on-1 to hammer out how to get Notre Dame to the next level. Swarbrick has seemed like a straight shooter; he surely isn't blind to what happened in Miami - I don't know if such antics described above are necessary.
But I do appreciate Brian Kelly, because if he does leave, he's at least shattered the notion that Notre Dame can't compete for national championships. Notre Dame might not have been on Alabama's level Monday night, but they are on "that" level - that being at the point where this program is in the discussion as a contender once again.
Brian Kelly has to do what's best for his career. I'm not really fazed by any of this news. It's the nature of the beast, and I happen to think the Eagles are a good organization, and would be a good landing spot for Kelly should he consider the NFL. I thought the Browns would have been as well, given his status in Ohio.
I don't think Kelly leaves, but if he does, I think Notre Dame is a much more attractive job now than it was three years ago.
Lets see were #1 in recruiting, #1 in graduation rate, #1 before we got beat by Alabama and finished 4th in the country...but yeah we need more to get it done since Notre Dame is obviously having such difficulties.
Anzalone gone. Go Brian Kelly!!!
So now it comes out that the Assistant Coaches are very unhappy with their pay and that they do not receive performance bonuses. And Kelly is not in the top 20 paid Head coaches in college. What else is on the docket?
Anzalone is the first casualty.
Kelly has created the crisis, the compelling event, and the deadline.
Notre Dame remains on the clock.
tick. tock. tick. tock.
What's it going to be ND Nation? Is it time to be honest with yourselves? Or are you ready to slide back into irrelevance?
BRIAN KELLY was #1 in recruiting. BRIAN KELLY was ranked #1 in the polls. How well has Notre Dame and its graduation rate done without Brian Kelly?
I think 2 or 3 extra kids could have totally changed the outcome of the game.
Solid conclusion re ND being more attractive now than 3 yrs ago for a coach. Crummy that the improvements come with changes of coaches though. Rotten that the timing for this will impact a great recruiting class. I think he is gone. Either way it should be concluded quickly to be fair to his current employer and the staff of coaches.
Merlin take your wizard wand away from the keyboard until the dust settles please
Cedar youre a joke. You know as well as I do assistant coach pay can and should be determined and figured out behind closed doors, not as a ploy of whether he jumps or not. Thats just idiotic. Brian Kelly isnt out there flirting for assistant coach pay, read Pristers article. With the relationship he had with JS that is something they bothcould have worked on behind the scenes.
There you go again calling people a joke...bet the popular opinion on this board is hello kettle, meet pot!!
Obviously not Merlin. Obviously negotiations behind the scenes were not working. Assistant salaries are only 1 issue that has leaked recently. Undoubtedly there are many more. Kelly may indeed leave for the NFL. But it is up to ND to stop him. I wouldn't call his bluff.
For example, 2 years ago Kelly went public about his desire for Field Turf. He got hushed embarrassingly. Just recently it was announced that Field Turf is not coming in 2013. This is just one, public example of Kelly not getting what he wants. And it is a trivial one. Maybe he is just sick of that kind of garbage and he is putting his chips in the middle.
