The Irish rebounded from an overtime loss to St. Joseph's Friday night in the Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic with a 78-68 victory over Brigham Young in the consolation final. The Irish (3-1) shot 52.1 percent (25-for-48) from the field and made 6 of 13 attempts from behind the 3-point arc, including a 5-for-6 effort (83.3 percent) in the second half.
Cooley (13 rebounds) and Grant paced Notre Dame with 19 points apiece, and Atkins finished with 16 points.
I thought they were going to lose this one also Wes. But they regrouped and pulled it out.
Two time Poster of The Week, 2011 and 2013.
It was a needed win, and good to see Grant bounce back, but a couple of issues still bother me.
Cooley is the only guy that does the dirty work under the boards and if he is absent for any appreciable amount of time there is no one who can replace him.
Dosen't look like the 2 bigs will be able to play together, it bogs us down although it's a work in progress.
Depth will never be an issue at N.D. as Brey could have the roster of the 90's Bulls and still only trust 5-6 guys.
Sherman is nothing against real competition. He has some of the worst hands i have ever seen, and is probably the most uncoordinated player on the team. This all makes him a terrible rebounder, and he got eaten alive this weekend in that department...I would love to see Auguste get minutes, but we all know how Brey is with "older guys"
Made my own thread but I'll ask in here too:
First, I was wondering why there seems to be a lack of support for our men's basketball team. I'm not saying that everybody has to be a fan of our basketball team if they root for our football team because I know that there are many reasons that people are fans of the football team. I also know that it's not just this year and I know that we are traditionally a "football school", but our basketball team has been pretty good lately and is only getting better.
I saw a picture from the women's bball team's game today and it was jam-packed, even though we were playing a relatively weak UMass team. I guess I would just like to see an equal amount of support for the men's team.
Also, anybody on this board going to the ND-Kentucky game? I smell a Syracuse-like upset!
