At this time, do you think the line will be better, equal or worse than this years. Let's not count J. Jones since he has not played. We have back Day, Schwenke, Nix ( I assume ), Tuitt, Hounshell, Springman, and let's include Shembo and Williams. What's your opinion ?

“Notre Dame? Relevant? Of course. Call me in 90 years, and I’ll give you the same answer.” Neal Pilson, former president of CBS Sports
I'm more concerned about the leadership drop-off than I am the skill and ablility aspect. I think that we will be more skilled next season and mainly because of the experience that players like Nix, Tuitt, Shembo, Spond, Day, Williams, Springmann, Jackson, Farley, Shumate and Russell all developed this year. That's 11 players that I quickly count that should be better next year.
The thing that I will be watching is who is going to step up and be a true leader and inspire great play next year? Manti is a unique player. I haven't ever seen a defensive leader that has meant so much to an entire team. Kap pulled right up by his side to help lead this team. Those guys plus the maturity and leadership "on the field" that Motta showed this year is going to be hard to duplicate!
Who has the ability to step up next season? Not just with a skill set but has the personality to lead! Could Zack Martin carry that torch if he returns; maybe Slaughter if he gets a medical; does Shembo have that personality or Spond? I'm not sure! BUT; it will be damn exciting to watch these men next year!!!
i think Motta returns. He has shown the leadership skills. UP front I am not sure who will be the leader of the D.
I don't think Motta has eligibility.
Motta is out of eligibility.
Nix is the straw that stirs the drink, folks. If Nix comes back, and stays healthy, then we will likely be the same or better. I honestly think Nix is the defensive MVP of the season. Manti is great, no doubt, but it is Nix that keeps those OL off Manti, allowing him to roam and tackle at will.
3 time POTW;
I really think that hcwillie hit the nail on the head with a leader stepping up. I am not worried about the talent, but I am worried about the leadership.
I do think that the defensive line will get a lot more help next year with a more experienced backfield and a better offense. There shouldn't be games like Michigan next year where we completely outplayed them, but couldnt' get a comfortable lead.
The defensive line will lose talent, but I think perform just as well due to the fact that every facet of the team around them should improve.

heres the rub
this defense is built around 3 players making their keys
Nix, Tuitt, Teo
one of those is gone and maybe a 2nd
so question isn't depth IMO but talent level in the first wave
next years front "4"(due to 3-4 alignment) is this
LE or cat-Shembo
with these coming in to let the others get some water
LE or cat-Williams
DT-Jarron Jones/ Kona Schwenke-JJwill have made leaps and bounds by August Camp you'll see
RE-Okwawa-- i forgot how to spell it. From what I hear inside the weight room they are trying to get this 17, yes 17 years old to put on 20-30 lbs on this kid over the next few years. With his height they want him to be as strong as Shembo by the Junior year.
I think the front four is key to Irish success over the next 4-5 years and signing some real 5 star blue chip talent is essential. On the level of UCLA's incoming talent. We need Lynch like talent with Lynch-less attitude. Bet he feels stupid right about now

I think it has the potential to be better but it will take work, KLM will be tough to replace but I think with hard work which we all know will happen it will be better. I Believe it is spelled Okwara.
I believe it's spelled, DAY/Okwara/Ishaq/Hounshell/Jones/Rochell
