Syracuse just punched its ticket to Saturday's finals in the Garden. Notre Dame and Louisville should tip off here in about 20 minutes or so in the other semifinal game. Join the conversation in this thread throughout the game.
The fifth-seeded Orange held off No. 1 seed Georgetown, which surged late in the second half to force overtime, for a 58-55 victory. It's the first finals appearance for Syracuse since 2009 and the program is looking for its first BEC title since back-to-back crowns in 2005-06.
In what has become the norm lately, Notre Dame is off to a sloppy and disjointed start. Louisville up 10-4 at the first media timeout with 15:38 to play in the first half. The good news is Cooley has four points.
After a pair of Cooley free throws, Irish trail 18-13 at the 12:22 mark.
Both teams have four turnovers and Louisville has an 8-4 rebounding advantage so far.
Louisville is 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Notre Dame is 4-of-11 from the floor and 1-of-3 from 3-point land.
What is up with Sherman!!!
Sherman with three buckets after a Connaughton 3-pointer and the game is tied at 22-22 with 6:03 to go in the first half.

The whirling dervish.
The action has slowed down considerably and the Cardinals have a 24-22 edge with 3:49 remaining before intermission.
Cooley just picked up second foul and went to the bench. Connaughton is 2-of-3 from deep and Sherman is 4-of-4 from the field. Siva has eight points for Louisville.
Among the weakest foul calls I've seen in a while. Didn't even touch him, and the ref blowing the whistle had the Lousiville player in between him and Cooley...couldn't have seen the contact even if it happened.
Irish wait until late in the clock to do anything and Atkins gets called for a baseline charge for his third foul.
Grant just drilled a 3-pointer that should have been worth five points ... real deep.
I think the one thing you can say about Grant is he can play you into a game and he can play you out of a game.
Refs have blown a couple of calls tonight. That foul on Pat C. was being blown before the play was finished. Terrible.
Brey pretty fired up after Louisville connects on a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to take a 32-25 lead into the break. Brey slapped the scorer's table and a cup of water spilled on the court.
Sherman has an amazing low post game, but horrible hands, no passing ability, and is the worst 6'10" rebounder I have ever seen.
And they've let some contact go underneath that would be a felony in 49 other states. Cooley just gets battered when he goes up for a rebound. One of the problems is giving up offensive boards. Louisville is just quicker off their feet. Actually, they are quicker everywhere on the court and that's as much a reason as any as to why there up by seven. Irish aren't out of it, but I honestly don't know what it will take to keep them in it. Grant may have to get unconscious again.
I may not be pretty, but I'm fast.....
POTW 1/31/11 - 2/6/11
Irish shot 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from the field and 3-of-7 from 3-point land in the first half. Sherman led with eight points, followed by Cooley (six) and Connaughton (six).
Louisville shot 43.3 percent (13-of-30) from the floor and 4-of-8 from behind the arc. Siva led the way with eight points.
Notre Dame turned the ball over 10 times in the first half compared to the Cardinals' eight. Louisville outrebounded ND 16-11, including 8-2 on the offensive glass.
Atkins can't get a whiff of the basket. I guess playing only about 9 minutes will teach Knight not to miss a shot. Can't give Cam B. many minutes, as he just has not shot the ball well enough, and dosen't give us anything defensively.
Defense played good for most part, but giving up too many rebounds and not closing out well on their outside shooters.
Still in it, but we can't let them go on one of their runs.

That's the difference. How many put backs did they get on those?
Can't give them that inside position. Happens all to often with Sherman in the game.
I'm not sure why Brey is upset but ND is in this. Win it or Brey should explode and set a tone
I admit this N.D. team is not built to play at this pace. Grant scares me when he tries to get faster, never looks like he is in control. The way to stop that is make shots, or put pressure on their outlet passes.
Brey was mad because he was trying to let his guys know that Louisville was setting up for a 3-pointer in the corner and they didn't get the message.
