Tipoff is in a couple minutes in Tampa. If you're like me and don't have the Big East Network, the game is being broadcast on ESPN3.com. I'll provide updates (with a break at 1 p.m. because of an interview) throughout the game.
Looks like Tom Knight will get the start with Scott Martin out. Kind of surprising, but not a total shock. Knight has been getting some minutes lately. Looks like Brey wants to go big against the Bulls.
Irish start the game in a 2-3 zone.
Notre Dame trying to get a little spark with the black uniforms?
Bulls with two early turnovers. Knight put-back gives ND a 5-3 lead early.
Sherman in for Knight at the 16:00 mark in first half.
USF hits a 3-pointer after a Sherman turnover to take an 8-7 lead.
Open look for Cooley under the hoop and a Grant 3-pointer gives ND a 12-10 lead at the first media timeout.
Irish are 2-for-3 so far from behind the arc. That's a good sign for a team that has been struggling mightily lately.
Irish shot 13 percent from deep against Georgetown Monday.
Biedscheid makes his first 3-pointer in four games after going 0-for-8 vs. Georgetown. Atkins steal and layup finish and a Grant 3-pointer gives ND a 22-18 lead.
Irish extend lead to 24-18 with eight minutes left in the half. Really nice back-to-back defensive plays by Knight, who had a block and forced a turnover.
Cooley picked up second foul with six minutes left in first half. Bulls make a push and cut deficit to 24-23.
Austin Burgett comes in for Cooley.
Knight picks up second foul and USF's Collins completes 3-point play to tie things up at 28-28.
Knight leads ND with eight points.
Not sure how I missed this, but Mike Brey went with a regular shirt today instead of the turtleneck.
Fitzpatrick knocks down a triple for USF to take a a 31-28 lead. Two minutes to play in the first half.
At the game. They are playing very sloppy, not your typical Brey style. Lots of bad passes, poor reads, missed guys. Very shocked about this team's play lately.
It amazes me why Brey continues to play Sherman. There is no way that Auguste can be worse than him
Notre Dame missed its final seven shots of the first half. Bulls surge to a 35-28 lead at the break.
I keep trying to convince myself that Sherman will contribute once he gets some confidence back, but now I'm growing doubtful that's going to happen.
Irish shot 48 percent (12-25) from the field and 40 percent (4-10) from 3-point land in the first half. South Florida shot 60.9 percent (14-23) from the field and 45.5 percent (5-11) from deep.
Knight led the Irish in the first half with eight points while Cooley (four points) sat with two fouls. Grant scored six points, Connaughton added five and Atkins was really quiet with only two points.
Irish also had six turnovers in the first 20 minutes. Bulls had five turnovers.
In other news, Syracuse has only a 61-57 lead over Villanova with a couple minutes to play.
