Hello, Tom Knight. Good for him; he's getting his chance and making it count.
Not near a tv/radio - keep it coming - GO IRISH!
Well, that was one ugly half of basketball with Cooley on the bench with two fouls. But Notre Dame gets into the locker room only down 32-31.
Well, we're lucky that we're only down 1. I sure hope we come out sharper in the 2nd half!
ND shot 44.8 percent (13-for-29) on mostly attempts in the paint. Irish went 0-for-5 from 3-point land.
St. John's shot 40 percent (12-for-30) and missed all eight 3-point attempts.
St. John's freshman forward Jakarr Sampson leads all scorers with 14 points. Notre Dame's Eric Atkins has 12 points, three steals, two assists and no turnovers.
Irish have eight turnovers, St. John's has five.
Thanks for the updates. IN AZ you can be sure we ain't gettin a sniff of the Big Beast.
Irish outrebounded ST 17-12 in the first half. Red Storm outscored ND 8-5 at the foul line. St. John's is 8-for-9 from the stripe (88.9 percent) after entering tonight's contest last in the Big East in free-throw percentage (61.4).
No problem. The game isn't on ESPN2 out in Arizona? What game is on out there?
Wes, what's our FT % compared to last year? Maybe it's just me, but it seems like we are missing a lot more FTs this year than past seasons. It always bothers me so much! So many points left off the board due to FTs. I believe we're 3-5 in this game (not sure), so it's not necessarily a comment on this game but rather the season and my perception so far; I could be totally wrong.
I was talking to Irish assistant Rod Balanis the other day and he stressed how much they need Sherman to get it in gear. If Knight continues to get after it like he did in the first half, he might move up to the seventh spot in the rotation.
The team shot 70.4 percent from the foul line last year. The Irish are currently shooting 68.8 percent this season (and that's an improvement from the beginning of the year).
Free-throw percentage over the last few seasons:
Connaughton apparently has added the baseline reverse to his arsenal.
Totally different look with Cooley in the game, but SJ's Greene has hit back-to-back 3-pointers to keep the game tied at 39-39 with 16:12 to play.
That's why I'm here.
Well, Cooley just got nailed with third foul (literally). Sure looked like it could have been an offensive foul on Garrett. With about 16 minutes left to play, this is going to be a problem for Notre Dame. Game still tied at 39-39.
Cooley blocked and SJ gets a dunk in transition. Red Storm on an 8-0 run.
Not looking good
And now a 10-0 run. Irish call much-needed timeout down 47-39 with 12:49 to go.
Offense needs to come from other places than just Cooley. Defensively, to put it nicely, we're struggling.
Connaughton hits first triple of the night for ND, which trails 57-50 with 8:36 to go.
Irish showing some life, but Biedscheid needs to look for better shots and contested 3-pointers early in the shot clock.
