I may not be pretty, but I'm fast.....
POTW 1/31/11 - 2/6/11
Again he's a starting corner on the #1 defense in the country. Thats what he IS right now. The "what if" doesnt get better than that.
And how are Mahone and Carlisle and Neal question marks more so than Russell would be? Bizarre logic.
At this point it would be surprising if we didnt get one of Bryant/Folston- both of whom are superior RB recruits than was Russell. Davonte Neal was probably the #1 slot WR in his class but you want him replaced with a HS RB/CB?
Sorry man but I cant believe this thread has went so far. Maybe Manti wants to play RB in the NC game?!?
Oh and in case it wasnt already mentioned, CB is a MUCH more important position than RB/slot WR.
Just win baby!

Merlin I completely agree ....what are we talking about guys??? Russell is the starting CB on a national championship team and has hung with and come out on top of the best receivers in the country!!! There is no gurantee that cole Luke or lo wood will even pan out...we know what we got with Russell and that is a stud freshman corner who has the ability to be shut down....and if you've been a nd fan for awhile you know that a CB like him comes around once in a very long while an too have him matched up with another shut down corner in Jackson is the making for a dominate defense...and look what we got...moving Russell is ridiculous and in my mind a wasted proven talent
I don't see him anywhere but at CB. He was outstanding this year as a true freshman and being thrown into the position at such a late stage.
Two time Poster of The Week, 2011 and 2013.
This will be put to bed in a few weeks, 'bama's receivers are mediocre but since it's the SEC the nation will watch Jackson and Russell shut them down and think the 2 of them turned water to wine and will get way more national credit than they possibly deserve.(for the lone game that is, they deserve wheel barrows of credit for the season)
How about on December 22nd? Haha!

First, he is going to stay at that position next year because ND does not have enough experienced talent to cover two CB positions with depth. Secondly, he will want to stay at that position where he is thriving. Thirdly, sacrificing for the team is not a one and done proposition where you get your card stamped once and then no longer place the team ahead of your personal desires.
He's not moving.
^ THIS ^ +1
First, not sure where you get that I disagree with keeping him at corner so you can stop trying to point out my posts. Second, CB will be in a much better position next year than this IMO. And third, pick an argument and count off your points with someone that actually disagrees with you. The only thing I said was to speak with the kid because he deserves that, does he not?
What you are saying, or rather dictating is that he stays regardless of our situation. This has nothing to do with personal desires, your reading comprehension is lacking if you think that is what I am saying. Maybe you should go back and read what I posted and let me know where I said anything about him being better at RB or we should put him at RB, go ahead, I will wait.... see where I said IF the team is in a better position then ask him? So, can you explain to me where that is personal before team? I would think that states the exact opposite.
Questions like these are hypothetical, and we have to use our own foresight to try and answer them. Nobody knows what the future holds, who will sign the LOI and who will transfer and whatnot.
If you ask my preference, then I would say I prefer him at CB. But I will restate my point, IF the team finds itself in a better position next year, which I foresee it doing, then what exactly is wrong with speaking with the player and treating him like an adult? I would even assume that he would desire to stay at CB because of the success he had.

I asked this question a few weeks ago when wondering if Willis or Alexander wanted on board, if we'd take them, depending on how the domino's at other positions/prospects fell.
Got the answer regarding the Irish's recruitment of the aforementioned players, but didn't get an answer to the question of Russell.
I see it is kid is clearly a great player and asset to the team. However, if he'd prefer to move elsewhere, I think potentially our depth with what is being brought in/back heathly, makes it an interesting question.
If he is deemed just too valuable at CB, then by all means keep him there.
