In the Champs Sports Bowl, 18-14 to Florida State, yielding the last 18 points and pretty much snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Part of me was thinking, "Okay, they closed the 1972 season with a 40-6 loss in the Orange Bowl and 1987 with a 35-10 defeat in the Cotton Bowl, and still won national titles the following year."
But a larger part was thinking, 'This program just seems to find ways to lose when the spotlight becomes the brightest. It's almost like they're afraid of success." (Like what Mr. Potter told Jimmy Stewart in "It's A Wonderful Life.")
What were your thoughts at this time last year?
CITY OF CHAMPYINZ!!!!!!
I remember having a rational (me) drunk conversation with a fellow irrational ND fan about the future of ND football while departing the Champs Sports Bowl. Irrational drunk fan wanted Kelky fired for back to back 8-5 seasons bc it is not a acceptable record. I was pointing out how although it was not desirable it was a path to consistency and that firing Kelly would continue the roller coaster effect that ND has gone through since Lou Holtz. He had no hope for next year while I saw a foundation being built for improvement and more wins than 8-5. I did not expect 12-0 but I did expect more than 8 wins. I confidently stated to him Golson would win the starting job and the Defense would be awesome. Point is that I was pissed we lost but saw hope for continued improvement under BK. The irrational older(not a old man but in his 30s) ND fan wanted BK fired for going back to back 8-5, 1-1 in bowl games.

I remember having one prevailing thought: why did we stop blitzing?
FSU started running jail break screens with their WRs. I believe that is why ND stopped blitzing.
You summed almost exactly what i thought Lou. I never saw this year coming. I was even skeptical up to middle of the year because of our past to find ways to lose. What a great year it has been.
