#B1G source in Chicago at #BCS meetings telling us that #ND agreeing in principle to go to #Big12 as non-football member.
Well that is interesting. Probably the best move that ND could have possibly made here. Really have to hand it to the AD for navigating the ship through this seismic shift in the CFB landscape.
The way I see it, this is the first step in ND becoming a full-time member of the Big 12. The college football landscape is going to become a playoff without the +1. It's going to be the four conference champs battling it out and if you're not in one of them, tough. With the Big 12, we could keep our NBC deal much like Texas has their Longhorn network, and I'm sure we could work in some other small things to keep some type of relative independence as far as scheduling and such.

If this happens i think it will suck for ND basketball and other sports. Just my opinion.

Why's that? Compared to the Big East? It would seem to be an improvement across the board..
Sorry but Notre Dame Football is more important than basketball and it's not even close.
I dont buy it. How many times have I heard this over the past few weeks only to have to be nothing but rumors. Until I hear it from a main media outlet and is confirmed by the university this is just yet another rumor.
Seems like a hedge to me. If the powers that be agree that the playoff will consist of only the conference champions then ND has no choice to join a conference. If you join in non-football sports, you are essentially holding yourself a spot for football.
Well the Big East is dead and non-revenue sports need a conference to play in. It certainly hedges their gamble of staying independent in football indefinitely though. The Big 12 will be a premiere super conference and it makes sense to reserve a spot there.
I think it is the only choice they had. The big east was great in basketball but now it is falling apart. They had to go to the next best conference and that is the big 12.

i know, it is way more important and football drives the bus. I was just saying i think it would hurt the other sports. I may be wrong, its just my opinion.
I just think ND in basketball has established an identity and established itself in the Big East. i think it has helped in recruiting for Basketball and i dont think kids that fit in with our basketball program will be as interested in ND if we go to the Big 12. I think with the Big East changing i have said before it will really hurt the basketball program and really hurt what was a great basketball conference. Now before everyone loses their minds, lol, i totally understand football is the main concern at ND and it is my number one priority also. I was just expressing my thoughts on the basketball program mainly and the other sports. I could be wrong and hope i am,lol.
I believe the best choice is joining the ACC as a non football member
They're setting up a spot for football in the Big 12. ACC and Big East are going to fall apart in the next couple years when the playoff system is announced
ACC is not stable at this point as FSU CA Tech and Clemson might join ND in the big 12
Va Tech or Ga Tech?
Agreed. Smart money always hedges its bets...just not London Whale-style.
My bad haha california Tech! No I meant Va Tech
The best conference is the SEC, period. ND could get into that conference IF it really wanted to compete with the best.
