An impressive 22-4 his first two years ... but Year 3 is when his personality will really get imprinted. This will be interesting to follow, but he deserves the plaudits he received his first two seasons.
Stanford's David Shaw agreed to a long-term contract extension Wednesday that will keep him with his alma mater beyond the two years left on his remaining deal.
Only knock on Shaw is how bad his recruiting is going this year.
Its amazing that the PAC 12 Champs who went 10-2 and are going to the 3rd BCS Bowl have such a horrid recruiting class.
I was hoping he'd jump to the NFL like his predecessor. Stanford returns a lot of folks next year and Shaw seems to have found a QB like Brian Kelly, who is going to start for another 3 seasons. Every early pre-season poll that I have found for next season has Stanford in the top 5-7.
My luck w/the Irish 20-6...GO IRISH!!!
i think they will be the best team we play next year.
Agreed. Especially on the road.
But I read somewhere that there recruiting works differently somehow. I really dont remember the article well but it had something to do about why alot of recruits sign LATE with them. Either way, Stanford will be "around" for a long time under Shaw.

for those interested, this article from Feldman gives you a sense of how the recruiting process works at Stanford, both under Harbaugh and now under Shaw.
I don't know how many folks saw this, but Shaw was advocating against an early signing period. When Bryan Fisher at CBS sports mentioned it, I told him I felt it was because they don't know if their kids are going to get in until really late, which leaves them in a bind if a kid doesn't get in. The folks at SBN actually picked up on that message in this article
Good for him. There's not too many bad things you can possibly say about Stanford.
Thats a great article.
It made me think about the drawbacks of early enrollment. Sure, the fact that Stanford doesnt do it because of their later admissions works to Shaw's disadvantage, but he isnt wrong at all when he says "let them go to prom, let them go to graduation"...
These usually are pretty memorable events in a kid's life. And to imagine that some kid who has enrolled early somewhere and left after 3 years for the NFL hasnt seen a graduation ceremony since middle school, if he even had one. Hard to fathom actually.
I know I'm in the minority, but I'm not sold on Shaw. His team is still full of harbaugh guys and his best players are harbaugh guys. His recruiting class sucks this year after successful seasons back to back. When Chase Thomas, Ertz, Taylor etc etc etc leave and he doesn't have the recruits to replace them, I believe Stanford will drop off significantly. JMO.
I dont like the fact that kids can enroll early.
I think it rushes them into adulthood a bit too soon.
However I think schools should definitly have an early signing period. However I think kids there should be a few opt clauses for both sides. Such as Grades (for Coaches to use to Opt out) and Coaches leaving the program (for recruits).
yes, you would be in the minority on this one. If the current starting QB played against nd, there is a good chance they win that game. Eventually they will fall off because it is impossible to find that many quality players on a yearly basis.
Yep. Totally disagree with you. Shaw was the brains behind the whole thing. I would have loved to play with Harbaugh but Shaw orchestrated it.
I would argue that our QB is much better now than he was against Stanford as well. Not sure Stanford's new QB has played a great D..... So he hasnt had the opportunity to be exposed.
