Not sure if this is 100 percent complete, but its lengthy and covers most of the pertinent topics in the story. It seems there will always be parts about this story that are confusing, but this sheds a little more light on the story.
Excerpts from interview of Manti Te'o by ESPN's Jeremy Schaap.
Dan and anyone else versed in NCAA regulations,
When "she" asked Manti and Toma for heir checking account numbers to help pay for groceries, that coulda been a straight line to an NCAA violation if they gave it right? Any money deposited would have been impermissible?
I'm just trying to think of their end-game in this hoax.
According to this story, Toma also spoke with her as did Mrs Calabrese Zeke Motta. Another good sign that this is a legit account. Although, Im wondering how Eric Hansen takes this.
And for anyone out there looking to start a new career or business, Im sure there might be quite a bit of work in the investigative field as it pertains to internet footprints and whatnot. Not to mention, it is and has changed even how journalists are going to have to do their job.
Interesting. Yeah, you might have something there. I myself was wondering about this Jealousy portion around Thanksgiving and the insistence until things waiting until after the bowl game. Can you imagine what Kelly's head has been like since 26 of Dec and is like right now?

I have to imagine that would be a violation. I assume family/guardians can provide money for groceries, etc. I don't know where the NCAA draws the line. My guess would be a woman whom the players have never met would fall on the wrong side of that line. I couldn't find anything specific in the NCAA rulebook I have, I'll ask around and get a more definitive answer for you.

Thanks Dan, I was just curious. It jumped out at me when I read that, like wow that'd be sketchy to investigators. I can't find the reasoning behind these guys doing this. The missed obvious chances to make a money grab. They would/could have dropped this at Heisman season or just before the NC game if they wanted to screw w/ Manti by blowing all the focus on to this. Instead they directly told him they wanted to wait until after the game.
I'm also interested in that cryptic set of correspondences about waiting until the 16th. Could they have been the ones to tip off the report? Did they know the exposé was going to run on that day and wanted to stall so nobody beat them to the drop?
Double-checked with compliance officers this morning. That would indeed be a red flag for an NCAA violation. In order to provide money for groceries or any other needs to a student-athlete the provider needs to have had an existing relationship with the student that dates back to before they were a prospective college athlete. Nowadays, that pretty much means middle school. For those of you that have seen the movie or read the book The Blind Side, this is what got Michael Oher in a little bit of hot water with the NCAA during his recruitment.
