Manti Te'o joined ESPN's Dick Vitale and Dan Shulman for an interview during tonight's ND basketball game and may have committed a minor recruiting violation.
Vitale asked Te'o about fellow Punahou High recruit Isaac Savaiinaea. Te'o mentioned him by name and went on to say he would make his own choice on what school was best for him. At most I believe this is a slap on the wrist penalty for the Irish, but by the letter of the law it may be an NCAA violation.
NCAA bylaw 13.10.2 "The institution may not comment generally about the prospective student-athlete’s ability or the contribution that the prospective student-athlete might make to the institution’s team; further, the institution is precluded from commenting in any manner as to the likelihood of the prospective student-athlete’s signing with that institution."
Irish Compliance office confirms it was NOT a violation because Te'o did not comment about how talented Savaiinaea is or how likely or unlikely it is that he might come to Notre Dame.

Dicky V is a moron!
I thought the coaches and administration were the only ones bound by this NCAA rule, not the players
Dicky V of anybody knows the recruiting rules..you think he set him up? Or was it an honest mistake. Manti would trust a man like D V not to set him up like that. GET A BRAIN BABY!!! I'm going to caulk it up as a mistake..
“This is that time when you say winning’s a choice.“
POTW 12/23-12/29, 2013
There's no way Vitale would set up Manti. He loves ND as much as anyone!
Once he realizes what he did, he'll be sick about it.
The guy was a college coach for God's sake he should know better. It's not going to matter anyways.
I agree it was just a mistake. It was a petty one at that. It's not like Manti was saying he should go to ND. It is almost getting to the point where teams aren't going to be able to allow players to say anything on camera. There are way too many rules. Almost anyone can commit a violation without even opening there mouth or typing a sentence. It was really cool to see the whole football team there backing the basketball team. The blackout looked pretty awesome too! Just put a beat down on Kentucky! Great time to be Irish.
You are. He is a huge ND fan and a great human being. Your comment is absurd.

You dont post a topic like this unless you know for sure. With all the punishment coming down from the NCAA this is very sensitive topic. TAKE IT DOWN
