DL Jarron Jones - Breaks record ... on the basketball court

  • Notre Dame defensive line commit Jarron Jones set an Aquinas Institute record on Friday with 33 rebounds in a 83-64 victory against Charlotte. He finished with a triple-double on the night, adding 20 points and 11 blocks in the contest.

  • He was up against some pretty awful competition last night, but it's impressive nonetheless. Love his athleticism. I'm sure that's what has made him such a sought after recruit.

  • While Jarron may have drawn mixed reviews from his AA week, this kind of performance gives some evidence of the kind of athleticism he possesses. His team has been ranked in the top ten of the state and they have at least one player moving on to D-1 ball. The team they played is competitive with most other teams in the area. He is still somewhat unrefined as a football prospect, but there is plenty of raw material here for the position and conditioning coaches to develop. It's highly unlikely he's going to be a Lynch or Tuitt kind of immediate impact player, and has been previously noted, he may well wind up on the other side of the ball, but in a couple of years he could justify that early high ranking he held. One thing is for sure -- he's all in for Notre Dame, and right now, that's a refreshing quality.

Those are some crazy numbers. Great job by him.

  • I should have qualified my description of the opposing team -- they are a level or two below Jones' team, and they could be the kind of team whose tallest player is 6'2" -- I don't really know. But, one of Jones' teammates is also 6'7", and he's the guy playing D-1 next year, so it's not like Jarron towers over everyone on the floor.

  • Thanks for clarifying, Ham. I was questioning whether my info on Charlotte was bad. I think you and I are going to be this kid's biggest fans. Love having the home town representing on the Irish.
