DaVaris Daniels cited for underaged drinking

Eric Hansen of the South Bend Tribune just reported that Irish sophomore receiver DaVaris Daniels was cited for minor consumption of alcohol. Daniels, 19, was one of 29 minors charged in Vernon Hills, Ill. over the weekend.
This isn't a criminal case according to the local clerk's office, but Daniels will appear in court on June 14. The police cited all 29 at an address that matches Daniels' home in Illinois.

Notre Dame football: Daniels cited for minor consumption of alcohol

Notre Dame wide receiver DaVaris Daniels was cited for and formally charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor early Sunday morning in his hometown of Vernon Hills, Ill. According to court documents, the 19-year-old sophomore-to-be was not arrested but was ordered to appear in Lake County (Ill.) Circuit Courts Mundelein Branch at 9 a.m. on June 14.

Stupid to have 29 kids there at a party though.
At least he wasn't driving or fleeing the police. Honestly, underage drinking is a pretty big non-issue, so long as kids aren't being ignorant or unsafe about it. As punishment, Kelly should lock his butt in the film room with Golson this summer :)

In the state of Texas an 18 year old can drink with parent permission. Even at a resteraunt. I think every state should adopt that law.

Shoot, it's not even limited to that. I'd bet that probably 90+ percent of this board consumed alcohol prior to turning 21, regardless of whether or not they attended college.

and i'm sure all 29 kids had a designated driver all ready to drive them home.
drinking leads to acting stupid and being ignorant. but as long as everyone does it
it must be ok.

The young man should of known a party at his house was going to attract attention. Dumb decision, and I'll bet Phillip isn't too thrilled with this. I have no problem with him having a beer, but come on, you just seen what happened to your teammates.

That's why I said it was dumb to have it at their house--and I meant that from a parent's perspective.
I did it and was responsible, that's why it's ok, and was why I stipulated the need for good judgment.
Maybe you can't drink in moderation so that you still make decisions. That's too bad.

I would bet 90+% of the people on this board consumed before they were out of high school. This is getting stupid. As long as they aren't driving or doing anything else illegal this isn't even worth mentioning on the board. College students should be allowed to drink as it will stop all the stupidity. The 21 year old age limit is not stopping them from drinking, it's just getting them in trouble with the cops. If you can fight in a war and vote, you can have a beer.

couldnt agree more. Brother is a wrestling coach at a big division 1 school and this stuff happens on a daily basis, we just hear about it more... Thanks media!
