A well done article. My one disagreement is to say ND hasn't won a BCS-level game since the 1992 Sugar Bowl.
The Cotton Bowl was still one of the five "major" bowls (along with Orange, Sugar, Rose and Fiesta) back in 1992 when ND defeated 12-0 and No. 4 Texas A&M (28-3), and in 1993 too — 24-21 against a 10-1 and No. 7 Aggies team. Throughout most of its history, the Cotton was recognized since with the Cotton, Sugar and Rose as one of the four "majors." The Fiesta didn't start getting that status until the early 1980s.
The BCS started in 1998, but in the early 1990s, the Cotton Bowl was still a BCS-level bowl, and that shouldn't be forgotten. Even in Notre Dame's Football Auditorium, there is a section that highlights ND's BCS history and excludes the Cotton Bowl — while including the Rose from 1925, or Orange from 1972 and Sugar from 1973.
Yes, I understand the Cotton isn't part of the current BCS, but it then should not highlight the pre-BCS Sugar and Orange and Rose bowls, or even Fiesta in 1989, while excluding some of the most storied victories in ND history in the Cotton, including wins over No. 1 Texas in 1971 (24-11) and 1978 (38-10), and the unbelievable comeback against Houston (35-34) in 1979.
My luck w/the Irish 18-6...GO IRISH!!!
