Every rep for TR is a waste

  • I said this after our bowl game and I will say it again. Every rep that TR gets is a waste and is hurting the team. No reason for anyone but EG and AH to get all the reps. Should have been all Spring but atleast now hopefully the Fall isn't full of wasted reps and wasted precious practice time.

  • You are correct my friend and the person that down voted you does not like the truth.

  • so true, but watch and see Kelly will start him, and why????

    tcboxer

  • I completely agree. Kelly needs to pick 2 QBs, and give them most of the practice snaps. And Rees shouldn't be one of those two.

  • Maybe he will transfer to KU? biggrin

  • How many times can I type TR is third string at best

    BORGHI

  • After basically starting for two years, it would seem that he would be the best equipped to shine in the B&G game; in fact the opposite happened and he looked the worst of the 4. Does BK see that? I mean two years of knowing the offense and the defense and he still looks like crud.

  • You are absolutely correct brennan & I could not agree more. Kelly need's to focus on Golson & Hendrix as the 1 & 2. Golson being 1 & Hendrix being 2. That's if he want's to win.

  • I agree with this. Hendrix and Golson need reps in the worst way. So, they need to get all of them. Rees meanwhile, has had thousands of reps and has reached his athletic limit. Making him third string with minimal reps is actually a good thing because if Hendrix and Golson both went down, the third string QB at ND is actually better than 99% of the third string QBs in the NCAA. So, there really is no downside in making him one of the Red Army. Kiel needs to lead the Scout team. That is the best spot for him.

  • I just can't understand anything that is spoken about the QB position by Brian Kelly. Why is it at every other program across the country they can have a young player like Golson that is exciting and skilled with potential out the ass and they play them because the inexperience is easily canceled out by their ability to create something out of nothing. But Kelly seems fixated on whether they 100% know the playbook and all their reads. Tommy Rees apparently still doesn't know all his reads because dropping 8 makes the kid look like he just stepped out of a special Ed class. I swear if Rees does wind up starting this year I have serious doubts about Kelly. 7-8 wins with Golson is a million times better than 7-8 with Rees.

Can we get posters here to sign on for that, and promise not to complain if Golson costs us a couple of games, and if they do, they lose posting privileges for the season? I'll go first because, if history is any indication, inexperienced quarterbacks cost you games. So, if we want to invest in a young guy like Golson, and that's my personal inclination, we need to recognize the costs are front-end loaded, and the payoffs come down the road.

Put me down. Realistically this team is 8 wins at best. Rather get some experience so in 2013 ND can make a run at a BCS game. That's not gonna happen with Rees. The guy should be playing for Akron not ND.

That's pretty much exactly my take on it. This season is a 6-9 win season no matter who starts. BCS potential exists for 2013 and 2014.....if Golson is the starter. May as well start building the foundation for that this season.

  • I will not down vote you but the other qbs get to see what bk likes about TR and why he has started over other Irish qbs.....seeing is better than being told how to act and run a play.....now step up and play like a champion!!

Look, ND fans are not going to be happy with 7-8 wins regardless of who starts. The difference is that I can't fault Kelly for getting 7-8 wins with a RS Fr after passing on Rees. If the choice were 10 wins with Rees or 8 wins with Golson, it would be a different story, but why wouldn't you prefer a 7-8 win season with Golson over Rees? At least there is some hope that Golson will be ready to take you over the hump next year.

Rees looks like the same QB at the end of 2010 as he did the beginning of 2011 as he did the end of 2011. There is not enough improvement. He is not the answer.

Not to mention the fact that playing Rees and a stunted, malaise offense will cost Kelly recruits. If it is going to be a 5 to 7 win season, might as well make it fun to watch with a hint of exciting things around the corner.

  • Golson by far was the best qb out there Saturday. His leadership is through hls ability to make things happen on the field and he demonstrated he can make things happen. No way we do any worse out there with Golson and I would bet on better.
