FSU and Clemson to the Big 12

    Other insiders on Boards in Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma are reporting this is a done deal. This article also mentions that Georgia Tech is also talking to the Big 12, and as has been rumored similarly for some time the SEC is interested in Virginia Tech and North Carolina State. One UNC poster is also reporting that he is hearing UNC to the SEC.

    The smoke is so thick now it is impossible to believe the fire is not raging.

    Notre Dame independence is over my friends. But this is not necessarily a bad thing. Independence is just a tool for ND to get what it wants. As soon as the cons outweigh the pros then it is time to cut bait. If it can get what it wants in a conference construct then that is good too. The fact that conferences are more national now serves ND's Football scheduling interests really well. And, maybe ND puts its other sports into various other regional conferences like it has for its hockey team. Maybe the Big 12 will be Football only, or just football, baseball and basketball? Whatever works.

    I just evened it out for you. Because I agree it is time to jump into a conference. Those super conference's are going to be shaping up here alot sooner than we all thought. ND to the big 12 is fine by me.

    A poster on another Board says that actually he is a really reputable source and writer. I've never heard of him though. Regardless, there is info coming from all over on this now.

  • +1 from me too!! I'm really debating along with my 3 brothers and father of leaving this site due to the absurd down voting system. It by far and the way gives me the best info and articles of any of the 5 sites I pay for but it's absolutely frustrating that people can't say anything at all that's controversial, in some cases like this one the poster just giving relevant info they found.. If there has to be a up and down voting at least posters should be able to see who did the down voting.....

  • Conference talk in regards to Notre Dame reminds me of a guy at the track who bets every horse in a race, and crows that he picked the winner. For years, every time there's a conference realignment, ND is rumored to be joining. One of these times it will probably be true.

    I don't know..... I can't say I'd be surprised, and I really don't see it playing out another way so I guess we'll wait for the official word. ND couldn't join anything till 2016 anyways without losing a boat load of money.

    And i voted you up quite a bit to offset the jerk who down voted you. Don't feel bad, someone keeps down voting me no matter what I say. I agreed Jeff Samardzija, or however you spell it, was a beast and got down voted. WTF is that crap?

    Why couldn't ND join anything until 2016? The NBC contract is for home games. Right now The Big 12 contract with ESPN is based on 10 teams. So, if ND were to affiliate or join the Big 12 there would just need to be a special arrangement around ND home games. Frankly, it would be a big win for the Big 12 to have 2 networks covering their conference. It just adds to the value of ND IMO.

    I agree. That is phase 2 of the superconferences. Phase 1 separates the top 50-60 teams in the FBS from the others. Phase 2 is a further hoarding of the booty for the top 30-40. But this is not new for ND. ND has been doing for this for past 30 years. That's why so many hate ND.

  • I see the value in that. I guess I never thought of it like that. But keep in mind an invitation still has to be extended to join. But I suppose that's little more than a formality at this point. To the Big 12 we go

    I don't know who he is. But, bloggers have been reporting about a potential Notre Dame/Big 12 arrangement for their non-revenue sports for more than a year, and now Neinas is speaking about it on ESPN. So, people do have info out there.
