Last week, I couldn't wait until the ball was put on the tee. Ever since the Sun Bowl, I had been thinking, yes, this could be the year. It's different now. Sure, I had some trepidation because first games can be jokers in the deck, and I didn't really know what kind of team South Florida had, but I just felt that the ND superiority would be enough, and this game would jump start a very successful season.
OK, I was wrong.
Well, today has a very different feeling. Now, there is doubt, where there was confidence. Yes, I saw superiority, but I also saw the inability to win against a lesser opponent which has plagued this program in recent years. We play a team, tonight, with a QB who put up a season's worth of yardage against us last year in one game. We will be playing in front of 110,000 rabid, adversarial fans. This scenario is not nearly so positive as last weeks, and look how that turned out.
That's OK. We will win, and win decisively. I haven't figured out how, yet, but it doesn't matter. I am still terribly apprehensive, and full of dread, but in spite of that, I know we will win. Tonight, the mojo will be with the Irish.
